Shelley O hits the book tour ground running, coming out hot on GMA in a Simkhai suit that pretty much sums up her approach to post-FLOTUS style: business-like, with a particularly MO sort of flair to it.

We really love this. It’s sharp and declarative in a really appealing way. It seems kind of goofy to think so, but this kind of business-like take with menswear tropes would not have gone over well when she was First Lady. There would have been days of cable coverage wondering if she was … we don’t know, trying to overthrow the government or start a lesbian witch coven in the White House or something. Because of the expectations of the role and the political atmosphere of the time, not to mention her status as the first black First Lady in history, she mostly stuck to very traditionally feminine styles in her time. It’s a treat to see her return to the businesswoman roots she came from before she entered politics. The metal closures give it an unusually strong, almost aggressive feel, which is not something we think we’ve ever said about her style choices before. Keeping serving it up strong, Miss Shelley. We’re here for it.

“What it means to be human, what it means to be American; those stories are limited.”

LUV HUH.

Y’know when people claim they want her to run for something, we recoil from the idea. Miss Woman has put in her damn time and surely doesn’t deserve another minute of that kind of anger and opposition in her life. We think whatever path she takes, as long as she’s connecting with people, inspiring them, and sharing stories, she’s playing to her major strengths as a public figure.
