Kerry Washington in Alexander McQueen at the Allstate Foundation Purple Purse Event

We have to tip our hats (if we had any) to any person who can hit a red carpet as a spokesperson for an anti-domestic violence charity and still look stylish and appropriate. As venues go, that has GOT to be a tough one for figuring out the dress code.

She’s meant to stand there and be the beautiful and glamorous actress because that’s why she got asked to be a spokesperson in the first place. But she also has to make sure she doesn’t come off frivolous or out of touch. On the other end of the spectrum of concerns, she has to make sure she doesn’t come off too dour or serious, either. We probably wouldn’t have recommended strapless, but this is a pretty dress that looks good on her but doesn’t overwhelm the room. It’s a little tight in the bust, though.

As for the purse, that’s just a squandered opportunity right there. This was a chance for her to do something really fun and she walks out sporting this utilitarian, not-quite-purple thing? Girl, no. You need yourself some purple leopard print or patent leather; something that really calls attention to the idea that you’re carrying a PURPLE PURSE.
