Laura Carmichael and Mia Wasikowska at the “Madame Bovary” Premiere

Posted on October 14, 2014

It’s premiere night for Madame Bovary and the ladies are bringing it. This is like an old school rap battle except with really pale European and Australian women in couture. And no rapping.

No slackers here. Both dresses are gorgeous.

If we were scoring them, we’d give this one to Mia because there’s a lean toward minimalism (in a studded, metallic sort of way) that really suits her. It’s the perfect Robot Girl dress. Kristen Stewart must be pissed right now. The clean face works for her in that Baby Blanchett sort of way. Quibbles: we’re getting really tired of the basic black pump, and that silver bag was perhaps a matchy step too far.

This isn’t to say Laura’s not serving here. It’s just that the dress is really busy and dramatic, so we didn’t need the steel-toed pump and the heavy makeup all at the same time. She’s just a bit overdone, although she does look pretty.
