Jennifer Lopez in Valentino at the 2014 Variety Power of Women Event

We give Jenny a lot of credit for coming up with the insouciant, like-I-care method of keeping her skirt from riding up: by hanging a thumb off her pocket like it’s no big thing. J Lo’s just hangin’, you guys.

It almost works. But no matter the pose, if you’re in a really short skirt and you’ve got your hand clamped to it like it might fly away from you, it’s both noticeable and not a good look. Even for a diva, an outfit should be wearable without having to resort to posing tricks to keep it on you. But she’s probably genetically incapable of asking for a hem to be let down, so here we are.

It’s a sharp little (emphasis on “little”) dress, although aside from the short hem and animal print, feels like a slightly off-model choice for her. She doesn’t do red a lot (which surprises us, now that we think about it) and she sure as hell doesn’t go for prim little collars like that. We’re not too keen on the competing animal prints, though. It’s kind of distracting, like you have to figure this dress out as soon as you look at it. “Okay, wait. Don’t tell me. Your torso is a zebra and your arms are leopards, right?”
