Lady Gaga in Dsquared2 in New York City

Posted on July 30, 2014

Sure, why not?

That seems to be the sentence we say the most often when we encounter Gaga pics. We suspect it’s the sentence she says most often when she’s picking out her clothes for the day.

Lady-Gaga_NYC-BOFC-GOTS-Tom-Lorenzo-Site-TLO (1)Lady Gaga arrives at her apartment building in New York City in a Dsquared2 light grey silk mini dress decorated with macro paillettes and crystals and a light grey silk cape embellished with macro paillettes, crystals and feathers from the Fall 2014 collection.

But there’s not actually anything crazy going on here. In fact, it’s kind of fabulous, in a “guest-starring on Laugh-In” kind of way. It’s a little disorienting to be looking at Gaga and have nothing to criticize. Sure, the makeup’s not the greatest, and we don’t like the hairstyle, and the shoes look a little precious to our eyes, but considering the weird masks, shitty wigs and almost offensively impractical footwear in her style history, this is too nice for us to bitch about.

Gaga looks good, you guys.

No one care anymore. Sorry Gaga.

      • Thomas

Obviously you don’t like her, which is fine, but this comment doesn’t particularly contribute anything to the conversation either. Besides, this is the least attention seeking thing she’s worn in ages. It’s practically restrained for Gaga.

        • evave2

I agree with you, Thomas. Plus the shoes are kind of cool.

        • thecitysleeps

Actually I used to be a huge fan of hers. I’m just now disenchanted with her schtick and her music is way worse now which sucks because I still think she’s talented. To contribute to the conversation, as you say, I still think she looks like she’s trying way too hard and that wig is horrendous. Not liking the shoes that much either.

          • Thomas

I agree with everything you said, except for I kind of like this version of Gaga. I don’t think this is trying too hard other than the hair maybe.

    • Synnae

Agree with the assessment but just what is up with that random bike on the pavement??? And how the hell did it manage to stay on the pavement unlocked in NYC?

      • Heather

I think the person riding it, saw her and fell over. They’ve since dragged the body away.

      • marlie

I bet a paparazzo threw the rider off of their bike because they were blocking the photog’s shot of Gaga.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

Maybe it belongs to the guy in the pink shirt. He looks somewhat upset.

          • smayper

I thought that the sheer force of her eccentricity, plus the power of feathers, had knocked the bike to the pavement and the rider out of existence.

      • Kent Roby

Also: Steffi seems to be having a bit of handler turnover lately. I assume that Steroid Picard and Hot Ginger are busy modelling underwear now.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

Hot Ginger has his own security company. He was quoted in an article I read online over a year ago.

      • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Right???? I thought the same thing.

      • Man Dala

Maybe it’s some street art pop?

    • Thomas

Honestly, this is MILES ahead of anything she’s worn the past few months. Maybe Fashion Gaga is back? Let’s hope so.

    • WendyD

This is a cape I can get behind. We need more capes in everyday life.

      • d4divine

        Yaaassssss!

    • Gatto Nero

Maybe this is the afterglow from her tasteful Lincoln Center appearance with Mr. Bennett.
      Give her a few days.

      • Imasewsure

Hopefully she will stick to the path veering away from the Donatella (wigs) phase toward this somewhat more human version. This is interesting enough again…

        • Thomas

Watching her morph into Donatella was the worst thing. We don’t need another Donatella. One is enough!

          • bitchybitchybitchy

And there really is no way to out-Donatella the one and only Donatella

          • Man Dala

It can seriously damage your health just looking at her.

    • Mothra

Oddly, she looks more “there” than I’ve seen in a long time. She almost appears to be present.

      • Thomas

Maybe the mothership has abandoned her and she’s finally realized that she has to semi-assimilate with the other earthlings lol

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

She’s also wearing shoes that she can walk in unaided – definitely a win!

        • sienna elm

I like the shoes! The only thing is that peachy bobble on the show looks almost like an extra toe in some shots. Definitely caused a second look. :)

          • bhl_1123

I thought the same thing! Its creepy looking.

        • FibonacciSequins

Except her big toes are gripping the pavement, not the shoes.

          • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

At least they are close enough to the pavement to grip it! Often hasn’t been the case.

    • Coleen

I would like this a hundred times better if she’d worn one of the models’ hats.

      • Thomas

Then it might be Emma Peel lol

        • ohbear1957

Thank you for reminding me of the fabulous Diana Rigg wearing the hell out of those groovy outfits that fit her character and body so beautifully. We wanted to be Emma Peel: strong, sexy smart, and feminine.

          • Thomas

Diana Rigg is an icon and Emma Peel is an iconic character. Even I want to be her and I’m a man! But maybe the fact that I’m gay is why lol Emma Peel is the definition of FIERCE.

            • bitchybitchybitchy

Diana Rigg as Emma Peel was the subject of many crushes-definitely iconic. She and Patrick McNee played so well off each other

    • Justine

      Her eyebrows are life giving

    • suzq

That cape is a work of art.

    • http://www.gregmce.com Greg McE

I keep hoping between this and her appearance with Tony Bennett, that maybe she’s putting aside the ridiculousness and going for something a little more… well, subdued isn’t the best word, but it’s the one that leaps to mind. Outfits like this can still be eye-catching without descending into WTF-ville.

But just like Bai Ling’s brief stint involving good taste years ago, I figure before we know it, the old Lady Gaga will be back. And I don’t mean that in a good way.

      • Kaonashi

Whatever happened to Bai Ling? I haven’t seen her in ages.

    • RussellH88

It makes me think that she’d be Goldie Hawn’s Italian cousin back in the 70′s.

    • SewingSiren

      Is she leaving the “gym”?

      • random_poster

Throwing the gauntlet down on who leaves the gym best…hilarious!!

        • Shawn EH

Her gym is Cirque de Soleil!

    • Imasewsure

Joanne Worley/Liz Taylor realness. Works for me and that is TWO IN A ROW for Gaga!!

      • mjude

I was just going to say that!

      • MoHub

        Very Worley!

      • Skippymom1

I was thinking Madame and looking around for Wayland Flowers – for the hair and eyemake alone, after i saw the cape.
That is not a criticism btw. [Just makes me sound old]

        • Imasewsure

Gawd yes you are right… so funny and yes we are old for getting that reference

      • FibonacciSequins

Ha, I just said the same thing re Joanne Worley.

    • Ashleigh

so fabulous. I was REALLY loving it until I saw the braid, but still – fab-u-lous

    • http://fibonaccisequins.storenvy.com/ Danielle

WHO DOES SHE REMIND ME OF?! It’s on the tip of my tongue, oh GOD.

      • http://fibonaccisequins.storenvy.com/ Danielle

I REMEMBERED. Jena Malone as Johanna Mason. That’s who she reminds me of.

        • Thomas

          I see it now too.

        • colleenjanel

I was JUST getting ready to post this!

    • teensmom99

Guest-starring on Laugh-In–wouldn’t that have been great? You bet your sweet bippy, Stephie! And yes, I am glad that she has decided that she doesn’t have to get even weirder since there was no place to go and it’s nice to see her in human shoes even if they seem mostly unwearable.

    • Capt. Renault

I’m liking this visit to a parallel Gaga universe, for however long this little sidetrip lasts.

    • Anna

I want to be Gaga so I can be handled by her roster of hot handlers. Is that James Bond again?? And I see there’s a new one.

She does look pretty great here, though.

    • Rhonda Shore

If she added a pair of horn rimmed glasses, she’d look like Edith Head. I like her with dark hair but i find i don’t really care and i never really did. It’s all so…forced, i wish it were all more playful and less studied.

    • Kaonashi

This is the nicest I’ve seen her look in a while.

    • hughman

      V. “Rich Man’s Frug”. Which is the best reason to watch “Sweet Charity”. (Ok, “Big Spender” too.)

      • Shawn EH

I never thought of Gaga channeling her inner Shirley McClaine love before, but I can see it. She should do an all-Fosse video!

      • boweryboy

On my first date with the partner, nine years ago, we bonded over our love for the “Rich Man’s Frug” and the fact that I always dreamed of being a Twyla Tharp dancer.

    • SuzyQuzey

I always just think of how EXHAUSTING it must be to be her.

      • Thomas

Or be around her. I used to be a big fan of hers and I kind of still have hope that she’ll pull it together considering it would be a shame for her talent and potential to go to waste, but I would never want to work with or for her. That sounds like a nightmare.

      • Capt. Renault

Friend of mine had some personal dealing with her, and found her remarkably approachable, and surprisingly (very surprisingly) down to earth. Apparently, she’s a very good hugger as well. He emphasized how good her hugs were. FWIW.

        • Musicologie

The bit about the hugs makes me happy to know. She always seems like a nice person under a lot of artifice and drama. It’d be nice to know her, but as others have said, exhausting to be around her for too long.

    • random_poster

I can dig it. You go, Gaga.

    • Lori

That fake hair is hurting my feelings.

    • gingerella

I look at these posts for Steroid Picard at this point.

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Is your picture Eve Arden in “Mildred Pierce”? I love it. :)

        • gingerella

Yes, and yours is JBK in the pale column dress and the long gloves, right?

    • BlairBear

In a world where Gaga looks good a mildly talented bland blonde will have a lifestyle blog because she was on a CW show once .

    • Wink

Not bad, but her legs are the best thing about this look.

    • E_bee

I don’t much care one way or the other about her or the clothes, I just wanted to say that those shoes make her look like she has an extra toe growing out of the top of her foot. If that’s intentional it’s kind of hilarious.

      • didgerdoni

I thought the same thing! I just spent entirely too much time assessing her theoretical supernumerary toes.

    • Dr. Cookie

At first glance, I thought those bulbous gumballs on the top of her shoes were her mangled big toes… I’m somewhat disappointed that they aren’t, to be honest.

      • kimmeister

I thought the same thing and physically recoiled, until I realized they weren’t.

      • BLauDGaspode

I recoiled in horror, too, until I realized it was some kind of geegaw instead of a boil.

    • PinkyK

She looks like a fabulous ostrich! I mean that as a compliment.

    • Constant Reader

I wish she’d start shopping at a better wig emporium, but other than that I like this outfit.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Is the black guy with the good shoes her current handler?

      • Constant Reader

She seems to burn through them rather quickly, doesn’t she?

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

If he is, I hope he hangs around. What an attractive man!

      • boweryboy

I want that on my tombstone: “He was a black man with good shoes.” Seriously. You should see my closet.

    • Frank_821

Yes very Laugh-In ready. Although Mrs Peel might have already worn that outfit at a fabulously decadent cocktail full of millionaires fawning over her

well her hot handlers are looking dapper and sexy

      • GillianHolroyd

        +1 for Mrs Peel reference.

    • alyce1213

She should send Joanne Worley a thank you note for the look. And Phyllis Diller.

      • Judy_J

Yeah, Phyllis Diller. Phyllis would have totally worn that outfit. But with little short high-heeled booties.

    • frannyprof

I guess, when you’re Gaga, you don’t dress weather-appropriate. But, because I am a merer mortal, just looking at her is making me sweat, and not in a good way.

    • MilaXX

I was thinking the same thing. The wig isn’t some busted cheap dollar store wig, she’s not wearing anything that obscures her vision or hobbles her feet. The makeup is a tad overdone, and the sandals are kinda ugly, but she’s not barefoot or covered in flour. This is almost cute and certainly a vast improvement over much of what she wore this past year.

    • Anique Ashraf

She’s also been a lot happier in the past couple of months. Hopefully this means no smeared paint or giant platforms. She seems to do better with collaborations — her career started going dowwwn the moment she decided she could do everything by herself.

PS: New song w/ Bennett is quite good, no?

    • FibonacciSequins

      Serving Joanne Worley realness.

      • alyce1213

        What I said!

        • FibonacciSequins

          I saw, haha.

    • marlie

Like I said yesterday. “Fashion Gaga” is my favorite. I prefer her SO much more over “Artsy Gaga.” This works, it suits her, and she doesn’t look like she needs to be committed to a mental institution.

      • Thomas

Also, “Artsy Gaga” wears horribly innacurate renditions of the Mona Lisa as “ART.” You think if you were gonna wear a picture of the Mona Lisa, you would pick something with the actual painting on it and not a bastardization of a copy.

    • Kent Roby

Steffi has taught me that if I run around for months in panties and stilts that I’ll look that much more awesome when I wear a nice outfit later. I desperately want this non-desperate Fashion Gaga to hang around a long time.

    • Hazel Ruxton

And she went with a quack and a waddle and a quack
In a flurry of eiderdown …

      • Judy_J

Now I’m hearing Danny Kaye singing that song…..

    • Meg0GayGuys6

She has extra toes coming out of the top of her shoes!

    • Tanya Wade

I was feeling a little Ruth Buzzi there. Glad to see I’m not alone!

    • http://armchairauthor.wordpress.com/ LesYeuxHiboux

She does look good. Snaps of recognition.

    • Pound of Salt

I keep thinking that’s a sixth toe poking up the top of the shoes. But props otherwise

    • elirt

She looks just like Joanna (Jena Malone) in Hunger Games/Catching Fire. Weird.

    • Judy_J

She’s a young version of Madame of Wayland and Madame fame.

      • Pennymac

I’m old enough to remember this, and you’re spot on!

      • boweryboy

As a pre-teen gay I could not get enough of Madame’s Place. I was must see tv for me.

    • alainalynn

Wow, Legs. That is all I have to say.

    • Pennymac

No hooves! But she does have toe “cliffhangers”. I’m not rolling my eyes too hard at this one, actually.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

I don’t like the shoes. It looks like a toe is sticking up in a very wrong place, so I feel somewhat grossed/creeped out. But I do love the dress. I wish I could go around wearing that to mundane places in order to make them more fabulous places.

    • KayEmWhy

It belongs to Rihanna! Bitch stole her look.

    • conniemd

Actually DSquared2 and Gaga seem like a really good match. Just arty enough to be interesting, if not appropriate for walking around New York City.

    • CKMia

For Gaga it is actually quite cute and fresh, I don;t even care that it’s basically a large, grey bird.. A more substantial shoe would have really elevated the whole look.

    • siriuslover

I love the dress. What the heck is going on with those shoes?

    • Joanna

The hair is still awful. The rest is good.

    • macaroni

God, she looks SO MUCH BETTER with dark hair. Blonde really doesn’t suit her coloring.

    • crash1212

Relieved to see that her footwear no longer makes me fear for her ankles. That is a pretty fabulous outfit.

    • Dawn

      I think she looks adorable.

    • largishbearishAtlish

“Gaga arrives at her apartment building….” (from where?? a Laugh-In party? the dog groomer? looking at carpet samples at Lowes? Shopping for micro-lettuce?). I loved the models hair better- very ‘the peckinese just died’ hair)

Is Gaga still a singer btw?

    • boweryboy

I’m not a fan of the Gaga but more of this, please.

    • quiltrx

I’m fascinated by the…well, I guess that part is a cape? It practically begs to be pawed upon and mentally deconstructed by us sewing types.

    • Sophie

I don’t like the hair/wig, but the rest looks rather good. I love that cape on her, I’d love the background models’ cape or coat on me.

    • Maggie

I dig it, and her legs look fucking fantastic.

    • deech_sea

“n a “guest-starring onLaugh-In” kind of way” That is exactly what I thought when I saw it. Maybe that was the look she wanted(?) Love the shoes.

    • Biology Princess

Her shoes make it look like she has an extra toe on top of her foot!

    • Man Dala

I agree, she does look good — even so my dislike for her continues to be massive.

    • MitzyG

She should make her handlers and bodyguards wear those white outfits that are flanking the model in the catwalk picture. Then it totally works!

    • Cecilia Lin

tbh i click on gaga pics just to see the bodyguards now.

    • Jeremiah Capacillo

Fashion Gaga!! Oh how I’ve missed you.

I still sigh dreamily every time I remember her custom Giorgio Armani orbit dress from the Grammys.

    • greyhoundgirl

Maybe her recent work with Tony Bennett has brought her back. Their duet on his last CD was fantastic. Girl can sure sing, and swing.

    • Aurumgirl

Take Gaga out of the equation and that outfit is gorgeous. The shoes she’s wearing don’t work because they don’t fit her.

    • twocee

I actually…like it? That’s just bizarre. Today is officially opposite day.

    • Renaissance_Man_ATL

I think she needed the gloves from the runway presentation but overall, good job Gaga!

    • Amy Ignatow

For a moment I thought that flesh-colored bead on her shoe was an extra toe.

    • Jon Horne

gotta admit: THAT look on LGg’s face in the last pic as she walks past the knocked over bicycle is priceless! “uh, doorman…what kinda breed is that puppy lying there? You, Keep-the-paparazzi-at-arms-reach Guardman…find one of those for me. MAKE. SURE. IT. IS. HOUSE. BROKEN. mkay.”

    • Patrick Cleary

She always looks so joyless. Like she’s desperately walking around in whatever she thinks will give her whatever attention is required to keep her name at the top of whatever list it is that auto-generates money for her, but she’d much rather be in sweatpants at home reading a book.

    • Lilithcat

I love that cape! I want to wear it to the opera.

The shoes, however, look as though she has an extra toe sticking up out of them.

    • LibKat

I want to applaud that she hasn’t got gigantic hooves on her feet, but good God, those are ugly shoes she’s wearing.

    • http://msavonelljrose.blogspot.com Avonell

The model looks fabulous tho. Idk about Gaga. I think it’s the hair. I really don’t like the hair.

    • ktr33

I think it’s all pretty good! I hate the shoes, but the rest is kind of working, in a Ga Ga not being totes crazy kind of way,

    • queeniethebold

No, i can’t go so far as to say “good.” No. But “better than usual”? Eh, yeah.

My next question is: Who cares? (i know, i know. A lot of people do. But i just can’t make myself. i don’t find her interesting or appealing in any way.)

    • Ali2044

It must be so exhausting to be her.

    • http://tvblogster.blogspot.com Boop

I fear for her right big toe, spilling out of the sandal like that.

    • Mary Lauer

That pink globe on the top of her shoe looks disconcertingly like it is really her big toe, eek!
