Olivia Wilde Style Double Shot

Posted on June 18, 2014

Miss Olivia is apparently in a very stripey mood lately.

OLivia-Wilde-David-Letterman-Stella-McCartney-Tom-Lorenzo-Site-TLO (1)Olivia Wilde on her way to the Ed Sullivan Theatre for an appearance on the “Late Show with David Letterman” in New York City in a Stella McCartney look from the resort 2015 collection paired with a Proenza Schouler bag.

No. Absolutely not. From a couple of angles, it looked almost passable to us, but that shot of her with her hands on her hips sealed the deal. The proportions are terrible and the patterns just don’t mix well at all. They’re totally random and the effect is deeply unflattering. Downright stupid-looking.

This concludes the portion of this post where we try to be kind. No, really. Because look:

Girl, you’re nuts. You are going to be so embarrassed by this in years (possibly even months) to come. This looks like something Edina Monsoon wears on vacation. That could (and probably should) be the Stella McCartney brand slogan.

That second dress hurts my feelings because it could have been SO CUTE. But Stella.

  • Danielle

OBSERVE MY POSTPARTUM BODY! I don’t even care that I’m wearing a hideous bandeau and contrasting striped sack!

    • Anna

      • Carleenml

“horizontal striped seatbelt” – I’m weeping from trying not to laugh right now at work.

      • Danielle

To be fair, if my abs are that flat after having this baby, I’ll be wearing nothing but a clear poncho and a smile and dancing in the street for everyone to see.

        • Kitten Mittons

          “Swinging in the Rain”

          • Danielle

            Swing low, sweet chariots.

        • Anna

I hear you. My abs have never been and probably never will be flat, but if I ever do achieve it I’d probably do something similar at least once.

        • poorellensmith

And you would look far more stylish and chic than Girlina does here. Know it.

        • Beth513

Had my baby 2 weeks after her and am very happy with my body considering, but no, do not count on your abs looking like that 2 months post partum.

      • kimmeister

        Also, NURSING BOOBS!

        • ……which have been flattened into submission in that second dress.

      • NinjaCate

Yup. My first thought was, WHERE IS HER BELLY? And my second thought was SHOW OFF.

    • Second that. I didn’t even notice the clothes, except for how they skim over her “I just had a baby four seconds ago” body.

  • MsKitty

This looks like something Edina Monsoon wears on vacation. That could (and probably should) be the Stella McCartney brand slogan.

I’m gonna be laughing at that for the rest of the day, mostly because it’s true.

    • Sophie

And Edina Monsoon suddenly makes me like it a whole lot better.

  • Jen

Go Gryffindor! That’s all I can see with that color combo & stripes. Sorry Stella & Olivia.

    • MoHub

It is never necessary to apologize to Stella McCartney. Never.

    • Darren Nesbitt

She’s a fan at the Quidditch world cup.

  • KateShouldBeWorking

Girl, the World Cup is soccer, not rugby.

    • random_poster

And she’s trying to wear just about every nation’s color.

  • NBG

Oh FFS, Stella! Stop trolling us. It’s not funny anymore.

  • crash1212

Stella needs to be stopped. I’m wondering how much she pays these ladies to wear her clothes because they cannot be doing so because they actually LIKE them…can they? Both these looks are actually making me angry. Must step away from computer. Also, why is her hair so very flat? Blech.

    • Constant Reader

My thoughts exactly. Being the daughter of a living legend is no excuse for this constant assault on our retinas.

      • Raspberry2012

This is the pass I keep mentally trying to give her. “But she’s Paulie’s daughter.” But I just can’t anymore. No matter how lovely her perfume smells, and how her dad can still make me melt when he sings “All My Loving”, I just can’t excuse her anymore.

    • KES4K

To be fair, both ensembles look pretty comfy…but if comfort was the sole deciding factor, why ditch the flat sandals for stilettos? Regardless of shoe choice, the color/print combos make my eyes bleed.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

If you took the skirt from the first look and paired it with a solid tank top or camisole it could work, although the hem is still problematic. The second look is like a very expensive beach coverup, and only Edina wearing it as she staggers from carrying a liter-size gin and tonic or margarita would save it.

        • demidaemon

Truly, these are only drunk clothes, because then, at least, you have an excuse.

          • bitchybitchybitchy

I understand Olivia wanting to show off her post-baby bod, but to wear clothes like this when you’re sober? Please.

    • Anna

So is the consensus that Stella is only a big time designer because of Daddy? I’ve never been a fan of her clothes, but I see her stuff everywhere – I’ve always wondered if celebs wear her clothing because she’s Stella McCartney? If this is how others feel, it’s nice to know I’m not the only one.

  • Noah

  • JR Labrador

“But Sweetie Darling, it’s La Croix”.

Oh Stella, she tries so hard to be fashion forward but this shite is ridiculous.

  • Jessica Freeman

I saw the first one and thought “oh that’s definitely some Stella Fug” . The second dress could have been great with some closed sides instead of her striped bandeau bra. I really love the orange shoes with it.

    • SugarSnap108

Totally agree on the potential for the second dress and orange shoes. But then Stella.

    • I agree. I actually like a lot of things about that second dress. I wish we could see how it looks from the back.

      • Imasewsure

I wish we could see how it looks from the back too… but I’m talking about back in the work room… this is one hot mess

  • SugarSnap108

Step away from the Stella, Olivia. Quickly.

    • conniemd

I said the same exact thing before I read your post.

  • ChiliP

What are those…things…on the second models feet. They look like the bastard offspring of Pebble Flinstone’s and Baby Spice’s footwear.

    • Heather

Platform Tevas? I’m afraid for humanity.

      • TrixieConQueso

You 2 are cracking me up… I thought “What Fresh Hell Is THIS?”

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Platform Tevas-for the hip tri-athlete on dry ground.

    • kimmeister

I was thinking they were moon shoes for adults. You know, with the built-in trampoline springs.

    • JenniferA

The nicest thing I can think of to say about Olivia’s looks is thank GAWD she’s not wearing the shoes on the model.

      • AwwwTrouble

Exactly. Think how much worse it cold have been!

      • majorbedhead

Exactly what I was going to say. And that’s the kindest thing I could say about either of these dreadful ensembles.

    • demidaemon

I know. I thik I might have been more offended by them than by the clothes. But it was close.

  • jen_vasm

    Go home, honey. You’re Stella’d.

  • cat772

    No. Just no.

  • sugarkane105

Just checked, and she had her baby on April 20. She’s clearly suffering from some post-partum psychosis. No other explanation, cuz her style until now has been SO cute.

  • Stella Zawistowski

  • SuzyQuzey

Is she being held hostage by Stella? Did she lose a bet? IS THIS A RANSOM NOTE IN THE FORM OF CLOTHING?

    • Chickadeep

      • Kayceed

Stella has her kid. She is being blackmailed to wear this schmatta. This is the only explanation.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

I HAVE YOUR BABY-I’m keeping the baby until you promise to wear only my clothes for the next year….

  • nannypoo

The second one could be cute. Lose the tricky hem, shorten it to just above the knee and find appropriate shoes. And put it on a teenager. There is no hope for the first one. Or for her hair.

    • Kent Roby

So, basically, the second dress would be okay if it were completely different!

      • nannypoo

        Pretty much.

      • Raspberry2012

Well, only if by “completely different” you mean “by another designer all together”. Here, try it! “So, basically, the second dress would be okay if it were by Moschino!” See? It works better that way!

        • demidaemon

I don’t know if Moschino works. They have been making some hiddy stuff lately. Maybe Michael Kors or Christian Siriano. Someone who has more hits than misses to their name.

  • numenah

OhOhOh. It hurts to look! Horrible.

    • evave2

I wondered WHERE somebody would wear this resort collection when we had shots from it earlier. Here they are and here they be BAD. The only thing I like is the orange shoes in shot 2.
Cripes. There are no words to describe how bad this is. I find myself shrugging and mincing my face and NO WORDS come.

      • evave2

I actually went back and God bless ’em Tom and Lorenzo did NOT SHOW Stella McCartney Resort 2015, just Amber Heard and Emmy Rossum there (in Stella McCartney).
I went back because I thought the shoes on the models above were hideous beyond hideous. Again no real descriptive words for the shoes Stella McCartney put on her models. They looked like boats or something. Hideous. Boy, thanks, guys: you got my blood pressure up FIRST THING in the morning.

      • evave2

Hey, guys, if you want a 700-note response to a show, put up Stella McCartney Resort 2015. I promise to post at least three times.
        Again, the shoes are hideous.

        • PastryGoddess

Oh please, it’ll probably hit 1000

  • Ragnarockette

Dayum, she got into post-baby shape fast!

In other news, I actually think the hankerchief hem works well for her, but everything else about these outfits makes me want to set fire to an Old Navy!

  • Stella Zawistowski

The only nice thing I have to say about either of these looks is that at least Olivia wasn’t dumb enough to wear the shoes they were originally paired with.

  • Wink

Both of these outfits could have worked, but they took a wrong turn along the way and no GPS in the world can get them back on track.

  • Kate Andrews

I want her to do something different with her hair. The center part doesn’t look cute, girl.

  • Capt. Renault

I went to the beach today, and wore my apron.

  • MaggieMae

Oh, those hems. I want those to go away, as well as the mullet or hi/low hems. Please.

  • Chickadeep

No, Stella McCartney, NO. Just stop. You’re embarrassing yourself.

  • GillianHolroyd

    Too heinous for words.

  • Coleslaw McGraw

OMG THEY ARE BOTH SO AWFUL! That first look is like something Charlie Brown’s mother might wear. And that second look! ICK

  • NMMagpie

This is that moment when you may be getting the message that your chosen career may not have been the best choice.

And Ms. Wilde may also just be having a “SUCK IT” moment as she recently had a baby in April and is no where near looking like she did.

Better shoe choice than on the model for the first look, though.

  • PinkyK

    OMG! Edina Monsoon! Perfect comparison!

  • boweryboy

First look: If she must do the fugly pattern mixing then either lose the belt or tuck in the shirt like the model.
Second look: I have no words.
Also, platform Teva leopard print sandals? Really Stella? Really?

    • The only praise I can muster for these looks is that at least she didn’t wear those hideous, hideous sandals.

  • Kent Roby

That first outfit looks very uncomfortable and too casual simultaneously; that’s pretty tough to achieve.

  • quiltrx

STEP AWAY FROM THE STELLA. I hope money changed hands for her to wear these. Otherwise…ugh.

  • Desastre!

  • FibonacciSequins

    Nice Edina Monsoon reference!

I was shocked at liking a Stella – then I saw the shot with Olivia’s hands on her hips. But she should have kept that on instead of changing into a tablecloth slung over a tube top.

  • Kitten Mittons

Honey, just cuz they give it to you doesn’t mean you have to wear it.

    • Kitten Mittons

Also, a plain white top would have improved both outfits tremendously.

  • frannyprof

    Step away from the Stella.

  • Dora Kishinevsky

I wish you could take Stella’s talent for getting her ridiculous hack designs worn by celebrities and put it into some unknown designer with talent for actual design.

    • DuBey2

      Like Mondo. (I love Mondo)

  • KinoEye

My gut reaction once I realized who the designer of both disasters was: “STELLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!”

    • Bad Idea Jeans

I’m glad I scrolled through all the comments before saying the same thing. Stella is NOBODY’S friend. I still think both of these would be a lot more passable if they were shorter and didn’t have those awful handkerchief hems, and I’m in awe of Olivia’s post-baby torso.

  • BlairBear

Stella’s garments should come with a stylist generals warnings . This garment you are about to do may make you look like smacked ass and undermine your reputation as a fashionista and encourage internet meanies to say unkind things. Proceed with caution

  • Heather

I actually like the print on the bottom half of the first look. I can see it for a very simple summer dress, or a cute A-line skirt that I would wear with a little white tshirt and sandals.

And yes girl. Your four-seconds-postpartum body is in better shape than 99.9% of the rest of ours, at any time. We get it. Now go home and change into something decent.

  • MissFern

    Stella McCartney hates women.

  • Teresa Wyatt

Perhaps someone could mention to Stella that this collection kinda sucks

    • boweryboy

It’s not just this collection that kinda of sucks, it’s all of them.

      • demidaemon

It’s true. She has about a .00001% chance of making something passable. A whole collection actually effectively changes that percentage to .000000001%.

  • Nancer

    Stella. Of course.

  • smh4748

There have been many ugly shoes on this site. Pointing them out and gagging at them is a popular pastime for us all.

But I think the ones the model is wearing with the second outfit are the most unfortunate shoes I have ever seen in my entire life. What. The. Hell.

  • Erica

The first one looks like something my grandmother might have put together–a woman who believed that any two patterns, in any color, whether in clothing, furniture, carpets and drapes, whatever, could be paired together and look delightful.

  • MilaXX

Seeing the first look when she was sitting talking to Dave I didn’t think it was to bad. However looking at it again in the light of day, NO. Just staaaph Stella, really.

  • imspinningaround

I’m actually not hating the second dress. I mean, let’s be real, it’s ridiculous as it is right now, but there’s a kernel of an interesting idea here and I like the colors and stripes.

Olivia Wilde’s figure is enviable. I can’t imagine rigor of the workouts needed to achieve that physique after having had a baby 10 minutes ago.

  • Shawn EH

I think I’ve figured it out. Stella isn’t really dressing humans. She’s still dressing her Barbies, using mom’s scarves and kerchiefs.

  • conniemd

Olivia, please step away from the McCartney. The first dress looks better on the model and less clashing because the top ends at the belt, but Olivia has a big brown stripe underneath her belt.

  • ashtangajunkie

I feel like her hair and makeup team were all ready to go, then saw the Stella and said, “Oh, never mind. Just go.”

  • gsk241

I love her. I think she’s gorgeous. These clothes are unacceptable.

  • Bernadette

I think the cute little striped top of the first look would have been adorably worn with a basic bottom. And what is with these freakin’ handkerchief hems gone amok?!

  • kfizz

The first look is aces, and you’ll never convince me otherwise. It’s interesting, and it’s kinda weird, and it looks way better on her than on the model.

  • surfergirl70

Ugh. Stop trying to make Stella McCartney happen. Her stuff is fug.

  • Judy_S

I can kind of accept these hideous garments on Ms. Wilde because I can look at her face and let the rest blur.

  • Gatto Nero

The Stella McCartney Schmatta Offensive is just making me angry now. It seems calculated to test the taste levels of gullible ladystars and the viewing public. When/how will she be discredited?

  • Hmm, I normally love what she wears but neither look is really inspiring me here. She is pulling both looks off much better than the average human could…but the clothing is not appealing at all.

  • kimmeister

At least her shoes appear to be the right size.

  • lynnlee

Stella McCartney should be ashamed of herself. Those dresses are just mean!

  • marlie

Both of these looks are FUGLY. Absolutely none of those competing colors or patterns work together. NONE.

  • Constant Reader

Adding insult to injury, the colors of that second dress are horrible on Olivia.

  • Kristin

There are elements of cute here, right? Like the top stripey sweater on it’s own, with a different belt and skirt? And the second dress without the weird side panels could be adorable.

Why must Stella fuck with things? Why.

  • AlexisPayne

  • altermyego

If Stella is going to mix patterns she needs to take a lesson from Mondo first.
God, it pains me to say anything bad about something with the name McCartney attached to it. I love Paul.

  • Hideous! Stella obviously wants her clients to look as frumpy as she does. Lucky for her that her dad’s rich and famous or else we neve would have heard about her.

    • Gatto Nero

She studied on Savile Row, supposedly. Clearly none of that experience in tailoring, proportion, or fabric choice sank in.

      • Kayceed

Her mentors must be so proud. Ahem.

        • suzq

A hem would be nice, actually.

          • Raspberry2012

            OH SNAP!!!

  • another_laura

Just. Say. No. To. Handkerchief. Skirts. NO!!!!!

  • That second dress is way too tight on top for her. Her boobs are practically gone, especially when compared to the first dress.

  • AlisonS

She has the same hair as when she was 13. Maybe time for an update?

  • Cathy S

    Stellaaaaaaaa! So very bad.

  • Anapestic

I’m sure there’s an exception somewhere, but I can’t think of tricky hemline that didn’t bug me. There are so many other places to play around with the shape of a garment: just stick with a uniform hemline.

  • decormaven

Child, you can smile til the end of time and nothing is going to change the fact your stylist stuck you with two of the tackiest dresses out on the market today. Fire your team, STAT.

  • GeoDiva

I was flipping channel last night and saw this mid-interview and had a WTF moment. Was hoping to find a post about it today. Thx for making my day!

  • LadyVimes

…at least it’s not boring? I can’t find anything else nice to say.

  • MannahattaMamma

If that body can be made to look “wide” in those hiddy stripes, imagine what the rest of us mere mortals would look like? As if we’re draped in the original beach towel from whence came this ghastly tent of a “dress.” (Using the term dress very loosely here.)

  • Stella McCartney needs to close down shop.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Once again Stella McCartney confirms that she can’t design her way out of a paper bag.

  • BLauDGaspode

If Olivia Wilde looks terrible, then you know something is terribly wrong with the clothing. Seeing as it’s Stella she’s wearing, well, what more needs to be said?

  • Raspberry2012

Oh jeeze… these are just tragic. They look like what a really hyper and spazzy 12 year old wears to her first school dance.

    And besides – Stella. (*Eyeroll*)

  • Alloy Jane

    I hate that hemline.

    • Raspberry2012

Just the hemline? You’re being too nice!

      • Alloy Jane

Oh I’m glad someone noticed, because that is absolutely the nicest thing I can say about these outfits LOL!

  • suzq

  • Zeee

Someone needs to check on Stella. She may have had stroke.

  • GRYFFINDOR! And a Gryffindor in disguise in the Slytherin common room.

  • Denise Rambo

I hope Stella McCartney is PAYING her to wear those hideous clothes.

  • V No Privacy

  • I like the orange shoes. (She said, tentatively.)

  • Mrs. C

(In the voice of Edina Monsoon)…It’s STELLA, dahling! STELLA I tell you. STELLA.

  • StelledelMare

I love a good handkerchief hem, and I’m not ashamed of that. However, I can’t with the patterns on these.

  • crashtestbonnie

I don’t mind either of these, particularly ((ducks quickly)). I like the bold pattern and color and I’ve always loved Thirteen. I think they’re a couple of fun looks. Having said that, the belt needs to be lost in the first outfit or the shirt needs to be tucked in like on the model – it *really* doesn’t work the way she’s wearing it here.

  • KT

I really want to love these looks, especially the first one, but there are just too many colors and elements going on that it’s making my eyes hurt. I actually don’t think the second look is nearly as bad as you do, and I totally see what she’s going for, but it’s all a bit too much. These require a PhD level clothes-wearer, and something else to help pull these looks together, and even then I’m not sure they’d totally work.

  • ThaliaMenninger

So is she from Ravenclaw or Gryffindor? I’m so confused!

    • Myra Amler

      She’s a Hufflepuff!

      • demidaemon

        Is that the style-blind house?

        • Myra Amler

          It is the useless house.

          • demidaemon

  • MW

The only explanation I’ve got is that she hasn’t had any sleep for the last two months…

  • alyce1213

Olivia got a package from Stella McCartney with two outfits and a big wad of cash. The only feasible explanation.

  • Synnae

OMG- laughing so loud. That is probably the best description of the Stella brand ever!

That second outfit is sheer horror but is it really horrible to admit that I actually like the skirt in the first outfit? That could be very cute if styled by anybody but Stella or Edina.

  • asherlev1

    I like it. Oops.

  • STELLA!!!!!!!! (shakes fist in rage)

  • Synnae

Just realised- shouldn’t we all be a little bit thankful that she decided to skip on the sandals?

  • appliquer

Really awful looks by designer Stella. And Olivia could try a different hairstyle.

  • titaness25

See…the thing is…I would actually wear the second one. It looks so breezy and cool (temperature, not awesomeness). And in a tropical country that lives in ‘Resortwear’ 24/7, this would fly.

I would accept and acknowledge the fug. But really, when you’re fugging it up but the breeze is cool and you’re not dying of heat…fugly is a small price to pay.

The first one is tragic and I’d rather sweat to death than wear it.

  • ktr33

Omg, before I’d scrolled all the way down, all I could think was: FASHION VICTIM! Totes, Tlo!

  • There are times when I think Stella McCartney should pursue another line of work.

    • demidaemon

Only times? That’s pretty much my only thought when it comes to her name.

  • demidaemon

Well, no surprises here, considering the designer. I’m actually more put off by the way the model is styled in the lookbook shots. Those shoes? With both dresses? Additional hideousity.

  • Just Me

Oh, give me a break. That crap was fugly on the models and does nothing for her. Take it out back and shoot it. It has lived a miserable, short, brutish life as clothing that no none should wear.

  • elzatelzabelz

This is why No Stella McCartney. Just, no.

  • Gilly Kaller

both are awfulllll. she JUST had a baby like less than two months ago. it may be awful but first one at least makes her body look amazing post baby. second one, not doing her ANY favors.

  • ShaoLinKitten

Stella McCartney brings you the Edina Monsoon Resort Collection! Sweetie darling.

  • Maryanne525

WHOA, I missed that she had her baby?? She is super wee again!

  • CatLady

Terrible outfits. Like she got dressed in the dark.

  • David Kresner

In a lot of ways these looks, and most of the Stella “oeuvre”, is so much worse than even the recent Moschino fiasco. At least there was coherence there, even if completely ridiculous, and a semblance of understanding how to make clothes for women’s bodies. This here stuff is shite.

  • livesarah

Hate the second, but there is a part of me that kind of likes (and might even wear) the first look, minus the asymmetrical hem. That might be the part of me with bad taste in loud, mismatched patterns, but I won’t deny it’s there…

  • kat89

Stella McCartney must laugh all the way to the bank at how ridiculous she can make celebrities look & the people who will actually buy these things because a celebrity wore it. Ka-ching, ha-ha, ka-ching!

  • Joyce VG

I just don’t understand how these clothes are even considered to be worn out in public.

  • Erin

All I could think when I saw the first outfit was “Go go Gryffindor!!!”…the second? Equal opportunity Hogwarts supporter.

  • a_liking

I think the top look would be alright without the belt. I fully admit that I come with a history of ridiculous pattern mixing though. 🙂
the second dress is beyond hiddy.

  • evave2

The top outfit just won “worst of the week” (aka fashole of the week) on Fashion Police; Joan Rivers said it looked like the stuff you wear when everything else is in the hamper to do your laundry. Guiliana said it was stuff her 7yo niece would give her to wear (this matches) but No just NO.
AND they ragged on the horrid sandals on the model.
