Taylor Swift in Talbots in NYC

Posted on April 17, 2014

Sometimes, we’d swear she was trolling us. “Here you go, T Lo. SUCK ON MY TWEE, BITCHES.”

Fine, Tay. We won’t say you “win” this round, but we believe everyone should find their personal style and stick with it, even if it makes our teeth fall out. Do your twee self, girl.

But you still have a problematic relationship with the idea of color matching. We’re just saying. And while we love the shoes, the black socks take it straight to man-feet.

  • WOW, this is the first time I’ve seen her in pants! I see she’s making a small concession to the NY weather, at last.

Also, this is the best I’ve liked her new hair. Side part is good.

  • @Biting Panda

I have a six year old who wouldn’t want to wear this because it would be “too much little girly”. Now, if you coated it in glitter, she would seriously reconsider.

    • sugarkane105

The glitter takes it to GLAM DIVA mode.

      • @Biting Panda

        See, you know.

(When I picked up the kids from their Orlando week with the grandparents, the backseat of my dad’s truck was COVERED in glitter and those bracelet making bands, the kids are addicted to. It looked like he had a backseat full of strippers with braces in there.)

        • demidaemon

This image. SO HILARIOUS. You have such a way with words. 🙂

        • bitchybitchybitchy

I’ll keep this in mind as our three year old great niece grows-right now she’s heavily into stickers, but I foresee glitter in this girl’s future.

          • @Biting Panda

To quote same daughter, “Stickers are my journey.”

          • bitchybitchybitchy

Love that! Last Christmas we gave the little greatniece a portable play desk which I stocked with markers, paper, and stickers, and after 15 minutes of play our niece looked up, stricken and yelled “I need more stickers!” Too funny

    • random_poster

Hahahaha!! I sometimes get sentimental and miss the glittery stuff my daughter used to wear, hearts and all.

      • Sarah

I am SO JEALOUS of the glitter available for children. I’m 38, but damn if I don’t want me some light-up sneakers.

        • demidaemon

Everyone deserves a little glitter in their life!

        • I have sequinned converse – they fill that hole in my soul.

          • Sarah

I have two pair of glitter sneakers, but they don’t light up when I’m walking. Poo.

          • FridaStaire

My daughter’s feet are now my size…I live in hope of light-up glitter shoe-share!

  • sugarkane105

I really like the sweater and even the color of her jeans, but I’m starting to think she just needs to shave her head and start over.

    • melisaurus

Let it grow out. It would be awful if she cut her hair off only to discover that she’s even cuter with a pixie cut.

  • Raspberry2012

I like this on her, actually. I wouldn’t have thought such a cute sweater would come from Talbot’s! That store is so boring!

    • @Biting Panda

Just the fact that she was shopping at Talbot’s amuses me to no end.

      • Danielle

We have a date to Ann Taylor Loft next weekend.

      • FrigidDiva

I keep thinking of the episode of the OC where Kristen’s sister is looking through her closet and finds an outfit “Is this from Talbot’s?”, said in the most horrified of tones.

        • Anna

          I thought the same!

        • @Biting Panda

I thought of comedienne, Caroline Rhea’s routine about her mother swimming.
          “Precious swimsuit, Marge. Talbots?”

    • 8daysaweek

I was surprised by the sweater but I will say that Talbots has some adorable skirts. One of my favorites comes from there!

    • Beardslee

Hey, don’t knock Talbots! They are actually interested in clothing middle aged women and for classic staples, you can’t beat it.
..clearly I don’t mind the way she’s dressed here. If twee means classic clothes that she can move in are seasonal and – dare I say it – decorous, I can live with the hearts.

      • Jessica Freeman

I was about to say…I’m not even middle age and my favorite work pants are from there. Lovely light grey wool that I could not find anywhere else.

      • Coolekat

        Tell it, sister!

    • Skwirrel76

I was the victim of credit card fraud a few years ago. Now, obviously, I was quite taken a back when I noticed my balance had increased by sixteen thousand dollars. But that paled in comparison to my shock that five thousand of that sum had been spent at Talbots!!! That’s where you go!?

      • demidaemon

I know. If you are going to blow that kind of cash, at least go somewhere fancy!

        • Skwirrel76

    • Mariatwa

I’m actually a fashion designer at Talbots and we have a lot of fun pieces mixed in! Give it a try, the new stuff coming in is far beyond what used to be there.

  • Glam Dixie

My daughter would wear this entire outfit, sans socks right now. She has a heart sweater and the colored jeans and the little man shoes or whatever those are called, my daughter calls them old lady shoes, haha. She’s 17 though and it gets a little twee at 24. That’s really cute but I do hate the socks.

  • ScarlettHarlot

Zooey Deschenel would like her sweater back.

  • Mrs. Julien

Those shoes. I need those shoes. Correction: I want those shoes. I can’t afford those shoes.

  • LadyVimes

I will take the pants. The sweater is making me nauseous with its sickly sweetness.

  • Jessica Freeman

Would have been better with no socks. I like it FOR her….she makes it work.

    • kimmeister

Or hidden, footsie socks. Gotta avoid the stank oxford too!

  • hughman

“Oh yeah, this sweater is all YSL. HA! Made you look! I actually just got it at a thrift store. Katie Holmes took me.”

  • nicewilliams

Based on everyone’s gasp of, “Talbots, you say?!”, my context clues lead me to believe Talbot’s arranged/paid for this pap shoot.

    • decormaven

This is completely arranged, I assure you. I’m impressed Talbots got her- it’s a last-ditch effort before it folds. That company cooked its goose a long time ago.

      • sagecreek

Also, she’s about 50 years younger than their target demographic.

        • Coolekat

          Thanks a lot

      • Judy_S

Actually, as someone in the Talbots demographic (not hers) I hope they don’t fold. So far as I can tell they’re the only group who make nice clothes (yeah, nice, which includes the concept of good fabrics and decent construction as well as boring styles) for short fat women, and I am one.

        • decormaven

I feel your pain. When I worked a more corporate job, Talbots was my go-to, because I’m short and busty. Since 2010, they’ve changed their sizing & their manufacturing sources, and they have nearly lost me as a customer. Not to be “punny” about it, there is a real shortage of quality petite clothing.

          • LargeEventPlanner

Eileen Fisher has some really cute petite clothing, and certainly a little more hip them Talbots for us 50 plus crowd.

          • decormaven

            Thanks for the tip!

  • susu

I don’t care if it’s twee, I love this whole look (even the hair). I think her style has come a long way from the uber-girly dresses and banana curls she used to sport when she first showed up on the scene. I’m embarrassed to say I really like most of her outfits these days.

    • anneland

I also like her style. The uncles hate it but it’s her thing. I don’t see any reason she should change.

  • Are those shoes Aubergine? If so, same rules apply with Navy – don’t try to match it to black. You give people headaches that way.

    • IMNAngryLiberal

Clinton and Stacey always said that you could match any neutral with any neutral (“Clinton and Stacey said” is my grown-up version of “My mom said”).

      • I can agree with that – but it almost comes off as miss-matched blacks if both colors are dark enough.

    • Aurora Leigh

What type of socks do you think would be acceptable? Cause no socks = stankford.

      • mixedupfiles

        Footie socks.

      • Blue with white dots. (I am a Skankford Wife, myself.)

  • marlie

Sure, it’s twee, but it’s not cavity-inducingly so. She looks pretty cute.

  • kittentoes

I like it, but why does she look like Michelle Williams?

  • wisenhar

At least she isn’t wearing 50 shades of brown.

  • FrigidDiva

Top half, total Rachel Berry. Bottom half is all Blaine, excpet he wouldn’t have worn socks.

  • lrober03

I really want that bag. They have a black and white version with gold accents *swoon*

  • MannahattaMamma

I love those shoes. black sox, blue sox, no sox, whatever the hell sox, those shoes are fabulous

  • VicD

She looks like a million college coeds on campus. I wonder if that’s what she’s going for?

  • Lex

Luuuuuv those shoes. Too bad they aren’t available anymore… what a bummer.

  • gayle

She exhausts me as much as Lady Gaga, neither of them seem capable of walking out the door without looking like a character. I give Taylor credit for choosing clothing other people would wear but as cute as this outfit might be this all looks so staged and styled. Can she get together with Reese sometime and get some tips how to make this look more natural.

  • demidaemon

It’s Swifty at he most usual. What else do you want me to say?

  • frannyprof

Twenty bucks says she becomes Talbot’s new face or brand ambassador, or whatever euphemism the PR peeps come up with. Unless she already is. It’s a *perfect* fit.

  • largishbearishAtlish

    Lipstick. fail.

  • nannypoo

Talbot’s is the perfect look for her, and this is very Talbotish. She needs to lose that lipstick and then she’ll look just the way she should.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Yes, it’s twee, but I’ll take this twee-ness over Katie’s St. Laurent sweater.

  • rkdgal

I can’t decide if I should laud her choice to rock dishwater blonde (my own natural look…or so I imagine, having not seen it for years), or want her to pick a side of the blonde/brunette debate more definitively.

  • P M

Talbots?? Aren’t they for the, um…… more staid and matronly set?? (Awkward phrasing replaces polite euphamisms). Did they pay her to wear that – she looks like the whole outfit is from the range.

    • MilaXX

They’ve been trying for a more youthful look for a while now.

    • Coolekat

I’ve been a Talbots buyer for at least twenty years so I like seeing it on her.

  • She grates the nerves like no other, but I can’t accuse her of not making an effort. Her shoe game is pitiful, though.

  • stubbornthoughts

Uncles, you could possibly do a “Everybody Want To Be Me…Do Me” post on this, because Tay just released a video blog of her attending a fans’ bridal shower (as a surprise). This street style smells like “hey, Internet, I know you’re talking about me, and here I am!”

    • Laylalola

She released it? Instead of the fan? Yes, definitely, she’s wanting the Internet to talk about it then.

  • Cassidy Olsen

Minus the rainbow-brite colors in the sweater and the clunky shoes, I wear some iteration of this on a regular basis. So I guess I like it?

  • Annmarie Kane

Skinny Jeans. A trend that needs to DIE.

  • BrooklynBomber

Between this one and Katie Holmes it must be Corny Sweater Day.

  • amanda lynn

she needs to stay away from red lipstick just for a few months. would we recognize her?

  • MilaXX

She bugs as an artist, but I’m digging her normcare twee look.

  • The Versatile Chef

This might sound unkind, but I do not think that face is going to age well.

  • FridaStaire

Nutso make-up for this look. Trying to give it ‘edge’, perhaps??

  • quiltrx

She looks totally mid-80s except for the cut of the pants.

  • clatie

I am giving her a god-damn standing ovation for getting a post on this site wearing TALBOTS. That is impressive, girl. Go on.

  • Clash D

She looks old in this getup. Like, mom with three kids old. I’m sorry but she does.

  • AthenaJ

I have issues with Talbot’s ever since they pulled a Pretty Woman on my mom years ago… She had to go to court against someone who ran a light and hit her, so she went to Talbots to look for a nice outfit to wear for it. Keep in mind my mom has never liked clothes shopping to begin with… Well, the women who worked there took one look at what she was wearing (old jeans and a Nascar jacket) and decided she didn’t have the $ to make it worth their time. They also threw in some body snark too about not having her size (total BS). Little did they know my mom had recently got a job as a private nurse and was making pretty nice dough. She was totally ready to spend it but they made her feel so unwelcome that she walked out, completely humiliated. So yeah, screw Talbots – Tay Tay can have them and their twee-ass sweaters.

  • OffToSeeHim

I think she looks cute. I think the navy keeps it from the “too girly” realm.

  • Liza Ortiz

It’s twee with a dash of prep
