Elijah Wood in NYC

Posted on February 28, 2014

Sometimes we think Elijah’s right on the verge of aging out of the Hipster Hobbit personal style that has served him well. But then we look at him here:

And we can’t think of one thing we’d change. Love the shoes, jacket and bag. Reaching for the shades. It’s perfect street style and dammit, it still suits him perfectly. We suspect he’ll still be able to work a variation of this look well into his forties.

i see this and can only think, “bueller. bueller. bueller.”
      i love the glasses!
      and the bag.

    • Liz

I thought it was Matthew Broderick in the thumbnail. If he had a nice sweater rather than a sweatshirt, this would be great.

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

I had the Matthew Broderick flash, too!

        • stellamaris73

          Me three. Uncanny experience.

      • The Counselor

        I think it’s the hairline.

      • DebbieLovesShoes

        Me, four!

    • http://brianfortedesigns.com/ BForte

      Those shoes are amazing.

      • kimmeister

They are interesting at least, although I’m not sure I like where the line is that divides the two colors.

        • http://brianfortedesigns.com/ BForte

Oooo but that’s one of my favorite parts about the shoes! I think that circular line is cool and not really something I see that often.

          • kimmeister

Chacun a son gout. They remind me of fireman boots.

            • c8h10n4o2

I think that might have just pinpointed the appeal for me.

              Mmmmmmmmm. Firemen.

      • Testa Ibsys

the color blocking on the shoes makes them look like ballet slippers

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Gorgeous shoes. Lovely little man. Is that a pattern on his jacket or localised snowfall?

      • Lisa_Co

There’s not been any snow in NYC the last 2 days, so it must be a pattern.

        • Shawn EH

It’s NOT snow? Was he housepainting in his wool jacket again?

      • Jackie4g

        Wool tweed, I should think.

    • Griffinqueen

He’ll be able to work that look into his forties cause he’ll STILL look like he’s 22. Bitch.

      • Lucía Gavello

I know, he and Winona Ryder make me wanna moisturize furiously and invest in cryogenics.

    • sugarkane105

“It’s called a satchel. Indiana Jones had one.”

      • Anna

It’s where he keeps all his things. He gets a lot of compliments on it.

    • Tatiana Luján

      Besides, he doesn’t age.

    • French_Swede

He looks exactly like Matthew Brodderick. Love the outfit.

      • Evan

I think he’s a bit better looking than Matthew Broderick.

      • Janet B

He looks the way I remember Matthew Broderick….when we were both a bit younger

    • Vickiefantastico

I really want to hate this (seriously, a hoodie over a button down?) but dammit, he looks great. I normally hate hipster style, but this works on him, probably because he’s been doing it for so long. I personally don’t think he can age out of this because it does seem to be his natural style.

    • Sally Spannagle

I thought this was Matthew Broderick too!

    • Jecca2244

      he’s a young matthew Broderick.

      • jilly_d

I scrolled down precisely to see if anyone else thought this

    • hughman

Cute but gurl, Head & Shoulders is your friend!

      • Evan

You crack me up. EVERY SINGLE FUCKIN’ TIME

    • Nikko Viquiera

I just want to put him in my pocket! Adorable!

      • SRQkitten

        The pocket Hipster Hobbit!

    • MilaXX

He looks like an extra from the cast of Looking. It’s a little too hipster for me. Not annoyingly grungy like Emma Roberts post, but so carefully planned it feels a little fake.

    • Glam Dixie

Those sunglasses came free in a kids meal at Arby’s. Love the shoes.

    • lrober03

I don’t understand why people don’t exclusively wear dark sunglass shades. Isn’t the whole point of wearing sunglasses to *hide* the looks of disdain and disgust that you are giving to everyone around you?

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

They might be prescription – I’ve never been able to get prescription sunglasses any darker than that.

    • Grumpy Girl

I’m just sad we can’t see his blue eyes. He has such pretty eyes.

    • spinsLPs

      Can anyone I.D. those glasses?

      • ellisd123

Warby Parker. AWESOME company, and it’s nice to see him rocking affordable eyewear

    • BLauD

So glad I don’t have to be embarrassed when I say he was my first celeb crush.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

I dunno – what role did you fall for him in? If it was Sin City I will mock you, and be a bit disturbed.

        • snarkykitten

not the op, but I’m so ashamed to say it….

          The Faculty

        • BLauD

haha! No. I was a kid, so probably Huck Finn.

    • AmeliaEve

What makes this work without looking too young is the muted color palette. There is also a pleasant lack of irony. To me it shades more beatnik than hipster, and there are plenty of middle aged art directors in SoHo rocking looks like this into their fifties and sixties. They are all really classic pieces with just a little bit of flair. I don’t think they are age-restricted at all.

    • Emily Smith

I have adored him since I was a kid. I think actually being hobbit sized(ish) in real life helps him pull off this look. He is probably my one hollywood crush I’d ditch my husband for but I’m not sure he’d appreciate the CONSTANT stream of LOTR commentary and references he would get from me (we’re a little obsessed).

    • formerlyAnon

Like many, I thought at first this was M. Broderick caught at an odd angle. Which is really all I’ve got to say, he looks fine. No thing exciting.

    • jonnyf8

Much better looking than Matthew Broderick and better dressed than his imaginary brother Jude Law.

      • SRQkitten

Why do I suspect he’d be the better behaved brother? No shagging the nanny or that sort of thing.

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Or at least he wouldn’t get caught!

          • jonnyf8

I think Elijah might be a little wild himself. He’s had some pretty kinky roles.

        • jonnyf8

I have to ask. Who’d you rather? It’s OK Elijah has been of legal age for quite a while now.

          • demidaemon

            Elijah, without a doubt.

    • SusiePamudji

This is super cute. I want those shades and that bag.

    • kmk05

But what about your curls, Mister Frodo!

    • mjude

      I just adore him.

    • alyce1213

He does resemble Matthew Broderick in these shots, that is, before Matthew Broderick made me nauseous.

    • KT

Great look. Really into the layering here, and yes love the shades.

    • Imasewsure

Need the shoes… need the glasses but can live without the Matthew Broderick hair!

    • cmb92191

He is slowly morphing into Ferris Beuller… or Jonathan Silverman

    • GorgeousThings

Oh look! Our little Fro-Yo is all growed up and turning into Matthew Broderick!

    • nannypoo

I was going to comment how much he looks like whatsizname who’s married to SJP when I discovered not only that many of the BKs agree with me but they also remember his name. He’s adorable, by the way, and so is Elijah. I love everything about this outfit, especially the shoes.

    • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com cheekypinky

Totally Abe Froman, the Sausage King of Chicago.

    • Madam Von Sassypants

      <3

    • Leah Elzinga

I would wear this whole outfit. Ok, maybe not the shoes. But all the rest, pretty please.

    • luluransom

My, he’s wee. Love the shoes. Had ‘em in the 4th grade.

    • Megan Kennedy

I’m a lady and I want that bag.

    • largishbearishAtlish

gee, and all I could think was…”Does he NOT own a Lint Brush????”

    • TwiddlyStun

Thanks to Google I now know he is 33, while Sean Astin is 43 and Viggo Mortensen is 55. I guess it’s clear why Google thought I asked.

    • Tricia

      Perfect.

    • marlie

Frodo looks great. I think this is a look that he can carry on in some sense even beyond his 40s, because his aesthetic has been maturing along with him.

    • Linderella

Have had a silly, mad crush on him forever (breathed quite a sigh of relief when he came of legal age). Blessed with the kind of face that has and will continue to age perfectly. Love his sense of style, it strikes me as his own and not manufactured to be part of an image.

    • SierraDelta

I want his man-purse. Yes, of course it’s for my husband.

    • http://www.readbarbara.com/ ReadBarbara

He could play younger Matthew Broderick in a movie about Matthew Broderick.

    • boweryboy

I hate the shoes, but damn is he cute.

    • Pablo

For me the clothes look a little tight on him, I would like something a little bigger

    • katiemckinnie

I totally thought this was Matthew Broderick in the thumbnail. Apparently I wasn’t the only one?

ETA: annnnd my comment is almost exactly the same as some others!

    • save_the_hobbit

      He always looks adorable.

    • andreawey

I just want to pinch his cheeks! :)

      A domesticated hipster hobbit appears!
