Diane von Furstenberg Resort 2012 Collection

Posted on June 07, 2011

Aunt Diane does it again. If there’s one niche where Diane von Furstenberg should reign supreme, it’s the resort collection, where her usual facility with prints and color, as well as her chic and easy aesthetic, more than serve her well. This one’s the usual fabulous explosion of prints with some very trendy silhouettes and colors added to the mix. We’ll leave it to our commentariat to decide if the return to bike shorts paired with skirts is a good thing or not (prediction: not), but we’ll go out on a limb and say that von Furstenberg makes it work here. It’s a very sporty collection, with a more youthful feel than we’ve seen from her in a while. We love the accents, like the sunglasses and the sandals. There’s a general feeling of youth and fun here and we think it works great.

Gorgeous!!! And totally wearable for real people.

Collection is very eccentric! I like it a lot!

There’s not a lot here that I’d necessarily wear (I’m wary of prints and some of those colours), but I do like the way pretty much all of it looks. It is a very young looking collection though.

Cute, wearable, easy to mix with other pieces. It’s a win, especially the chartreuse, black, and white outfit you featured in your thumbnail. It would be nice if regular folks could afford them but I suppose that inability is part of the draw for those who can.

The collection is fun. That backround is too busy to properly show of the clothes. Clashing with the prints and layers of color of the clothes. Hurts my eyes a little.

I like the collection a lot. But… is it coming off as a junior collection to anyone else?

No one will accept bike shorts with skirts. I can’t see it happening. If it does happen, chafed thighs of the universe will rise up and rejoice.

    LOVE IT!!!

I like everything here. As for the bike shorts question; if you are young and thin, yes. They seem to work well here. For old farts with a little more junk in the trunk, hell to the no.

ummmm… LOVE DVF !!, but this is a little ” wake me up before you go-go “

That electric blue suit is GORGEOUS.  But it could also be how well it compliments the model.  Some of it seems like there’s too much going on architecturally, but I LOVE the color palette here.

Love the blue suit – and that first dress!

Colorful and funky.  Yes to the bike shorts.  Great collection!

    I love it!

This is beautiful.  Oh, to be young, thin, and at a resort!

I want all of those sunglasses. I`ll also take all of the prints. Feels like summer!

LOVE the colors working off of the blacks and grays. Overall a fabulous collection. Minus the bike shorts. :)

    Smiling models? yay

Great collection!  I was a litle scared at the first row with the leather skirt, MORE leather for Resort?!?  But that was the only one I saw, thank goodness.  Fantastic colors and prints.  She has a real good homage to Roy Lichtenstein on some of these peices, always a good look.

God, I wish I knew how to combine color & pattern like that.

I’m pretty much opposed to bike shorts off the bike . . . but then I saw the middle picture in the third triple shot row. The grey, white & black with a touch of orange – the one with grey bike shorts. I love that one.

    Love. Love. Love.

LOVE it all! But those mid-calf-length pants won’t look good on anyone under 5’9″ or over 120 lbs. Back away from the pants, starlets.

  • Allison Woods

    SO MUCH to the cute!!!

OMG, I love the sandals with the wide ankle strap!

I want to see Zoe Saldana in the yellow dress, second row middle. Rachel Bilson in fourth row, right side and Emma Roberts in fifth row left side…and Cate Blanchett, Swinton, or even Julia Roberts in the turquoise suit. Make it happen, ladies.

a lot of my hipster friends have already started wearing bike shorts with skirts.

yes to bike shorts with skirts.  I’m wearing them tomorrow, to commute to work!  As people abandon cars for better fitness and cheaper transport, such looks will become common.  Wasn’t there a time when people said “women will never wear pants in public”?

    I want it all!

Bike shorts under skirts are practical, I do have to say that…

Though I fear this thought process will lead to fashion spanx.

      • akprincess72

That is a very valid (& frightening) fear!   I really liked & long for the days when undergarments were well hidden UNDER said garments!  I just don’t like them as outer wear.
I have done this, but I also make sure the shorts don’t show unless there is a sudden, strong wind.  Under a casual knit skirt for summer, a pair can make life for a larger woman, much more comfortable.  Fortunately I live in a small enough town where fashion is a loosely defined & largely individual construct.   So even if they did peek out, I’d possibly still be to most normally dressed person there.

Lately I’ve been thinking about bike shorts under skirts/dresses. I think it’s a great idea, but they shouldn’t be showing. If you want something to show, you might as well wear tights or ankle-length leggings.

That blue suit is BEYOND chic
love the sportswear inspired feel to it all

Wow, DVF really nailed it. I feel like I wanna go on vacation with these girls. Some of these other leather tweed fug resort collections look like resort prison. ewh.

Looking at this again, I see MONDO, MONDO, MONDO!  Seriously, she owes him so royalties of some sort.  And yes, I’m still there, Nina & Michael were all wet with the “Gretchen is so much more on trend” BS.

I’m really beginning to feel sorry for the beating this DEAD HORSE is still getting…

Fresh and cute! Prints are eccentric and very eye-catching. Might take some hints here for summer wardrobe. LOL, on a Kohl’s budget!

Amazing! Just amazing! Just looking at the pictures brings a smile to my face. I’d be giggling if I’d ever get to wear these! Fun, fun, fun and soooo different from Donna Karan. Sorry Ms. Karan, but while your clothes are to die, I’d prefer to wear something like this while on vacay.
