Nicola Coughlan, Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy took EXTREMELY different approaches to the red carpet for the premiere of their extremely British fantasy film, The Magic Faraway Tree. Let’s assess.

We figure if you’re playing some sort of fairy in a children’s fantasy, this is the expected style route for you to take during its promotion. It’s theme-dressing, but it’s not cosplay. If she’d sported wings or something, then we’d be mad at it. She looks pretty because she’s well-suited to this style, but we don’t like the color, the beading, or the fact that it looks overdesigned to our eyes. Just give the girl a proper sleeve and stop all this nonsense.

Your boyfriend came dressed as the dad in a British children’s fantasy. Yeah, this is kind of cosplay. The sweater is legitimately cute and the outfit is totally on point for the setting, but the “aw shucks” posing is eyeroll-worthy. You’ve got nice hair. Congratulations. Stop playing with it; you’re middle-aged.

We burst our laughing and we feel like we should have prepared you for this. It’s a shame, because the top half of the look, while a bit plain, actually looks great. But that skirt… we mean, come ON. It’s SO dumb and it looks worse with the boots.

ABOUT THE MOVIE:
THE MAGIC FARAWAY TREE follows Polly (Claire Foy), Tim (Andrew Garfield) and their three children – a modern family forced to relocate to the remote English countryside. As they adapt to their new lives, the children discover a magical tree and its extraordinary and eccentric residents including treasured characters Moonface (Nonso Anozie), Silky (Nicola Coughlan), Dame Washalot (Jessica Gunning) and Saucepan Man (Dustin Demri-Burns). At the top of the tree, they are transported to spectacular and fantastical lands and, through the joys and challenges of their adventures, the family learn to reconnect and value each other for the first time in years.
THE MAGIC FARAWAY TREE is released by Entertainment Film Distributors in UK and Ireland cinemas on 27 March 2026.
