Julia Garner is having herself a busy little month. With The Fantastic Four: First Steps currently dominating the worldwide box office, she’s free to promote her next project, Weapons, which opens this week. While her Fantastic Four promo wardrobe was dominated by bold colors and metallics, as one would expect, she showed up for the LA premiere of Weapons working a retro look.
We say “retro” because there are clear inspirations from the 1930s in both the design and the styling, but there are probably one too many modern twists for one look to handle. That bodice and shoulder treatment look like someone completely lost control of themselves in the design process. We keep trying to edit it in our minds, but really that whole treatment needs to go. The ruffle and bow are overwhelming her. We like the sleek hair, but it would have worked better if the dress had been sleek as well, instead of this explosion of fussiness.
