The cast of Fantastic Four: First Steps continue to put on the least colorful promo tour of any superhero movie in the last twenty years.
We’re kind of fascinated by it, since it has to have been coordinated. To be fair, this is a very recent development. They were dressing a little more expressively just a week or two ago, but it almost feels like a course-correction. The impression we get is that Marvel/Disney are really trying to sell this as a prestige MCU project and the we can’t help noting that this change in promo style happened after Superman opened. Granted, it’s winter down under, although that’s no reason to eschew color.
Joseph Quinn in Fendi
It’s all very high quality fashion and we won’t claim it looks bad on him, but it does tend to make for an instantly forgettable picture. This is promo work. The point is to make people remember it.
Pedro Pascal in Celine
Enh. It’s fine. It’s very much in that louche mode he does so well. We just hate the flappy cuffs.
Ebon Moss-Bachrach
Again: very high quality, fairly forgettable.
Vanessa Kirby in Balmain
There’s certainly nothing wrong with positioning your superhero movie as the chic option, and we’re extremely grateful that no one in this cast thought to do any theme-dressing (except for one or two FF blues in the mix). As for this, it’s very much in that extremely narrow mode that she’s working at the moment. The sleeves are fun, but that zipper looks awfully bumpy.
