Gypsy star Audra McDonald didn’t add to her already massive haul of Tony Awards last night, but she did bring the house down with a jaw-dropping performance of “Rose’s Turn.” More important to shallow little old us, she slayed the red carpet.
Although if we’re being honest, we think the design is a little goofy. She looks amazing and you can’t go wrong handing her a slinky black sequined gown, but it feels like Christian Siriano worried that the design was too basic and started adding elements to give it more drama. There’s that odd shoulder detail and then there’s that half-skirt/sideways train/flounce thing. She looks visually unbalanced. Our first impulse is to suggest that the train be on the other side, but we really think the design would be improved by its removal. It doesn’t do anything for the look except make it a little more awkward. Hair and makeup look great. Love the braid.
