The Barbie Girls hit Bondi Beach in Sydney to pose for pictures and it looks like everyone’s starting to catch up to what Margot Robbie’s been laying down.
In other words, these Barbies nailed it.
Margot Robbie in Hervé Léger
It’s becoming increasingly clear that she was destined to play this role — not because she resembles the iconic fashion doll. There are literally countless blonde blue-eyed Barbie types in the entertainment industry, after all. No, it’s because we can’t think of another actress who would go Barbie-ing this hard for the promo tour (see reference). As we feel we must keep saying, despite our dislike of stars cosplaying as their characters, there was literally no other way for her to go on this one. It’s to her credit that she opted to take it as far as it’ll go. We’re really hoping we see a take on Peaches & Cream or one of the Holiday Barbies for the major premieres.
America Ferrera in Hervé Léger
In a way, she understands the assignment as well. Representing the non-Barbies, her job is to show up looking chic, sophisticated and grownup. We’d say the mission has been accomplished – and with a Barbie-sized ponytail to boot.
Issa Rae in Alice + Olivia
FINALLY. We were starting to get a little worried after that initial photocall, where she showed up in an outfit made out of craft paper. While we can’t say pink satin is our first, favorite choice for pictures, and we also can’t claim to love those split pants, this is appropriately Barbie in style, down to the hoops and the eyeshadow. We aren’t feeling the design of the suit, but she looks pretty cute.
Greta Gerwig
Madam Director is look sharp, chic and profesh – which makes this a complete 180 from her LA photocall look.
We know it’s their job to make it appear so, and that they’re all very good at said job, but this promo tour looks like so much fun.
