We gave quite a few of its attendees some spotlight time in our judging circle, but it’s time to wrap up our coverage of the West Coast Met Gala, also known as The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Museum Gala. Did we save the best for last? Well, see here’s the thing about that. You get to be the judge. Go put your judging pants on and meet us at the scrolldown.
Alana Haim in Louis Vuitton
Well, it was quite a journey, with more than a few A-list players, but our search is over. We have found the worst Louis Vuitton look of the night; possibly the worst Louis Vuitton look in the history of the world. Congratulations, girl. You pursed yourself.
Alexa Demie in Balenciaga
It’s eye-catching and really well suited to her, but if we had a magic wand, we’d eliminate the gloves and put her in less witchy shoes.
Alexandra Daddario in Christian Dior Couture
This looks chic and comfy, but we don’t think the hair and makeup are right for it.
Allison Janney in Brandon Maxwell
An uncomplicated classic.
Ava DuVernay in Louis Vuitton
Trust Ava DuVernay to snag the only good LV of the night. This is surprisingly understated.
Christina Ricci in Vivienne Westwood Couture
Both the bodice and the shoes look to painful to bother with.
Eiza González in LaQuan Smith
We think the necklace might be just a weensy bit too much, but this is still a gorgeous look.
Glenn Close in Erdem
It’s not a bad design at all, but it does come off kind of heavy.
Julia Roberts in Thom Browne
Julia will never not run happily toward the menswear-inspired looks. It’s her one fashion go-to. She should really turn to Thom Browne more often because he’s very good at turning suits into dresses and making it look fresh. She looks great.
Julianna Margulies in Zuhair Murad
We suppose we’d like it more if the skirt were lined, but if we’re being honest, we don’t love the pattern or color story.
Jurnee Smollett in Louis Vuitton
It’s neither the best nor the worst LV look of the night, merely the goofiest.
Kaitlyn Dever in Christian Dior
This would be lovely for a woman of about eighty.
Kerry Washington in Prabal Gurung
We’re not loving the tricky straps and if we’re being blunt, we don’t think the gloves coordinate well with the dress, but it’s definitely a look that says “party.”
Laura Dern in Khaite
Merry Christmas to you too, Laura Dern.
Laura Harrier in The Row
Just the kind of low-key minimalist chic The Row excels at.
Lena Dunham in Factory New York
The dress is pretty nice, if a little too shiny for our tastes. We’re just not sure about the hair situation.
Lily Collins in Christian Dior
Every single textile in this dress has absolutely nothing to do with the other textiles. They shouldn’t be anywhere near each other.
Mia Goth in Giorgio Armani
Can’t argue with that – except she needs a pendant.
Michelle Yeoh in Elie Saab
LOVE that bag. The dress is flattering and pretty, if not particularly interesting. Love the glasses.
Mindy Kaling in Naeem Khan
That may just be the best she’s ever looked on a red carpet. The color, fit and proportions are all flawless and her styling is superb.
Olivia Wilde in Alexandre Vauthier Couture
She had us until we got to the feathers. It’s a sleek, sexy, glamorous gown that goes totally Miss Piggy at the bottom.
Regina Hall in David Koma
We actually like the use of the feather here. We just wish the skirt had a little more length and volume to it.
Selena Gomez in Giorgio Armani
A simple classic that looks great on her.
Selma Blair in Thom Browne
We wouldn’t normally love seeing so many bows on a dress, but they really lift up the design and make it feel lighter and more fun.
Taylor Russell in Alexander McQueen
Love to see someone taking things in a more extreme direction. We could quibble with the details here but we love the vibe.
Thuso Mbedu in Giambattista Valli Couture
That top is really pretty and it feels like that skirt has nothing to di with it.
