Darlings, things were so much easier back in the earliest days of our blogging careers, when everything seemed new and fresh and ready to be snarked upon. In other words, when we were young and fresh ourselves — at least in terms of our blogging careers — we probably would have ripped this to shreds.
But time has a way of softening bitchy bloggers like us and after many years of doing this job we’ve become a lot more open to the idea of self-expression in fashion over sticking to trends or serving elegance or trying to look like a Vogue cover. This is not a girl with princess fantasies or generic popstar ambitions. This is a young woman in an industry that chews up and spits out young women on the regular. This is an artist that chooses not to be exploited and a person knows who she is — and will not compromise on either.
No, we don’t love this. But she managed to be true to herself and to get one of the biggest fashion houses in the world to give her exactly what she wants, no compromises. We respect the hell out of this.
