Time to wrap this purple carpet up in a bow and call it done, darlings. Pack a lunch, put on your judging bra, and strap yourselves in, because this is the first of THREE massive rundowns of the Emmy attendees.
Let’s GO:
Amy Poehler in Greta Constantine
Hmm. We love the idea, hate the execution, we’re afraid.
Angela Bassett in Antonio Grimaldi
It’s dramatic and bold and she looks great in it. We don’t love the design, but it works. We hate the bag. You’re too fierce for that nonsense, queen.
Busy Philipps in Lela Rose
Terrible color, shape and style.
Christina Applegate in Vera Wang
An overdesigned mess of a dress in a sad color.
D’Arcy Carden in Romona Keveza
Simple, but effective. Still, we wish she wouldn’t play it so safe all the time.
Emilia Clarke in Valentino Couture
We don’t know what’s worse: the extensions or the boob suspenders.
Greta Lee in Christopher John Rogers
This is crazy and we like it way more than we should.
Indya Moore in Louis Vuitton
It’s … just okay. We love the bodice, but we’re not feeling the design of that skirt and their sandals look painfully small on them.
Jameela Jamil in Monique Lhuillier
Not really fans of that bodice design but that Tiffany blue looks fantastic on her. Would not have rec’d matching the clutch.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Oscar de la Renta
Great to see her out of her usual black but we’re not in love with the proportions of that neckline.
Kristen Bell in Dior
Strikingly unusual. Whatever quibbles we may have with the bib-like design of the top half, there’s no denying she wore something really eye-catching and unique.
Laverne Cox in Monsoori
Miss Woman went BIG. She can handle all the volume but we don’t like the dishwater color of that skirt. Love the clutch, of course.
Lena Headey in Brock Collection
It’s such an unusual color story and unexpected style for her that we find it really appealing. We just wish it didn’t have the black bow.
Mahershala Ali in Ermenegildo Zegna
Can’t argue with any of that.
Marin Hinkle in J. Mendel
Low-key but pretty great all around.
Natasha Lyonne in Gucci
Absolutely loved this for her. It’s bold, it’s loud, it takes up space and she came dressed like an actual Emmy, which is one hell of a flex. She could not be more perfect for this.
Patricia Clarkson in Christian Siriano
We think the neckline sits a little low and the dress looks a little heavy, but the color looks amazing on her.
Vera Farmiga in Ryan Roche
Serving the Horror Queen realness for which she is most suited.
Viola Davis in Alberta Ferretti
You can’t see the silver platform sneakers she wore under this, but they made the look.
