We’re so mad at Good Lady Cate right now. Nominated for a Best Actress in a Play Olivier Award for her work in The Seagull, Cate Blanchett showed up in a dress that’s … straining our commitment to keeping the discussion here focused on the fashion and not the body in the fashion.
Yeah. Let’s just rip the Band-Aid off, shall we? That is just about the least flattering way to expose one’s bellybutton in a formal gown. Personally, we’re not big fans of exposed belly buttons in a formal setting, but there’s a way to do it so that it looks flattering and attractive. Putting it behind a trellis is not the way. It’s a shame, because we like this gown on her, but there’s no crime or shame in being part of the 99.99999 percent of the public who’s going to have a little trouble making a design element like that one work. Now. Having said all that, we will now await the slings and arrows to come our way. Sorry, but it’s not a great design for just about everyone.
