And they’re off! The Devil Wears Prada 2 stars Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep have kicked off the promo tour in high style as they attended several pre-release events in Mexico City.

We’re not about to license twenty-year-old red carpet pictures, but it’s genuinely interesting to us to compare this promo tour to the one for the original film in 2006. The OG had a distinctly anti-fashion bent to it, so no one really thought about partnering with luxury brands for the promo tour. Anne was always a fashion girlie, but Meryl wasn’t, and at the time, Emily Blunt was a newcomer without the resources she has now. It wasn’t as over-the-top as this one’s going to be and you can thank us for that. Well. You can thank the rise of fashion blogging, influencers and social media for the increased red carpet attention, but we’re just gonna take all the credit ourselves. Plus the Fug Girls, of course. Anyway, they look fantastic. We never quite understood Meryl’s dislike of fashion, because you only need to put the lady in a killer red suit to make her look amazing. Anne’s look is way over the top, but it’s exactly what we’d expect from her for this tour.

Another great look for Meryl that really doesn’t ask much of her (towering heels aside). It’s a great, strong look that feels formidable but also chic. The bag is ugly, though. We’ll give Annie this one, because she’ll be expected to put on a fashion clown show for most of this tour, but we think the outfit’s a little silly, a little juvenile, and more suited to Ariana Grande circa 2019. The boots are kind of amazing, but they don’t go with the dress.
