Queen Max went out for a couple of royal engagements this week and we’d like to take credit for the fact that both of her outfits are pretty great. Clearly, she’s been reading us and taking our advice to heart. You’re quite welcome, Your Majesty. First, the Queen and King Willem-Alexander made a visit to support local initiatives in Rotterdam.

Well, will you look at that. No weird color matches, no goofy accessories, no unflattering pieces. While we’d never try to tamp down on anyone with an exuberant sense of style, it does happen to be true that she does better when she simplifies everything. That’s a gorgeous cape and a killer pair of boots. We know she loves her jewelry, but we like that she didn’t weigh these pieces down with distractions. The clean minimalism is what makes the look. Next she was off to Tilburg to visit the MIND Us Foundation, of which she’s the honorary chair:

That’s not a bad day look at all. Personally, we would have recommended more contrast in the top and shoe choices, but she likes her matchy-match and these pieces actually coordinate well. Still, a bold blue top would have been spectacular.
