Darlings, let’s take a break from our extensive BAFTAs red carpet coverage and travel back in time, to a night before the BAFTAs, when a bunch of nominees and other stars posed in front of the Chanel hedges at the BAFTAs’ pre-party.
Caitriona Balfe

She dressed it up well, but it feels more like a day look. The shoes are horrifying.
Felicity Jones

Who knows? Who can tell? An outfit designed and chosen not to be perceived, apparently. The jacket looks nice, from what we can see.
Gwendoline Christie in Saint Laurent

Love this. Her refusal to make herself small is one of the best things about her style.
Henry Golding

It’s giving drunk finance bro. And the shoes really don’t go.
Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas in Chanel

We don’t actually like that feather hem, but it has more personality to it than her last ten red carpet looks combined. The whole thing is hideously shapeless and feels like a bathrobe.
Joe Alwyn

It’s fine, from what we can see.
Kate Hudson in Ralph Lauren

Well look at you, Miss Kate; snagging the best look in the pile — oh wait, it’s not Chanel. Good call.
Kirsten Dunst in Chanel

It’s not bas, as these things go. Can’t say we love the hem or the unfortunate situation with her shoes.
Lily Allen in Chanel

This is an outfit for an eccentric, chain-smoking, 90-year-old New Yorker. On anyone else, it just looks silly.
Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard

His jacket and scarf look great. Her dress has a pleasingly simple modernity to it. They look chic together.
Odessa A’zion in Giorgio Armani

Too many oversized cuffs lately, but at least these are fun. Not convinced they work with a crop top, though.
Regé-Jean Page

Can’t argue with that.
Wunmi Mosaku in Iyadé by Wunmi

This is from her own maternity line and she looks fabulously comfortable in it. It must be a relief after all the bodycon and sculptural gowns she’s been wearing. Good for her for not allowing herself to be shoved into a Chanel.
