Meghan’s fully in her red carpet era and that gives us an opportunity to do something we never get to do with anyone royal (or in this case, royal adjacent): put the fashion choices up to a vote. Besides, we’re putting the finishing touches on today’s podcast and you probably don’t want to hear us complaining about the same old Meghan style issues again. You do it this time.

The Fifteen Percent Pledge, it should be pointed out, is an organization devoted to ensuring that retailers devoted fifteen percent of their shelf space to Black-owned brands, so this is an event that has personal, political, and professional meaning to her. Since the dress is custom, we can take it as a very good summation of Meghan’s public style: neutral and classic. We maintain our longstanding observation that opera coats are too often deployed in red carpet situations because the gown itself isn’t particularly interesting or photogenic. The trim on the bustline gives it some interest, but we’d have rather a straight bustline than this extremely modest sweetheart. LOVE the touches of black jewelry, which really lend the look some much-needed personality. While we think a big pendant wouldn’t look right with such a demure neckline, we do think a more delicate style of necklace was needed. And as always, we think a richer color would benefit her in picture-taking situations. Anyway, that’s us, holding back on giving our opinion. Your turn:
