In the interests of completion, and because we’re going to do an “Ology” post about his Oscar campaign style next month, let’s check in on Marty Supreme star Timothee Chalamet, who showed up to the London Critics Circle Film Awards in Serious Thespian mode, which is appropriate, since he went home with the Actor of the Year trophy.
The ensemble isn’t particularly interesting on the merits, but we can tell at a glance that it’s all very fine. We don’t think the waistcoat actually works as a shirt, but the tux has a louche quality that suits him very well. What’s of interest here is the radical toning down from the stunting he was doing a couple months back, when the film opened. We said at the time that he may wind up redefining Oscar campaigning style if he winds up winning the award, but it turns out he’s smart enough to know when to snap to attention. The grooming gives him a maturity that suits him. He turned thirty just a few weeks ago and it looks like he’s signaling that his twink days are behind him.
