We can’t say we’re champing at the bit to catch yet another Marvel series on Disney Plus, but at least Wonder Man stars Yayha Abdul-Mateen and Ben Kingsley showed up to the series premiere like the good company men they are: dressed in the colors of the Marvel Studios logo. Maybe that’ll convince us to watch. It helps that they were also dressed pretty stylishly.

We’ve been noting the return of ’70s sleazy chic in menswear lately, from the nouveau leisure suits to the return of the silk shirt, but now we know this trend is fully ascendant because the one thing that was missing from this seventies menswear revival has finally returned: the high-fashion karate gi. We’re not mad at it even a tiny bit. He’s extremely well suited to it and we love the brooch.

He looks great and we love that brilliant red on him, but that looks like a dicey hem job on the jacket. Still, it’s a minor quibble.

They look good together.
ABOUT THE SERIES:
The eight-episode series is created by Destin Daniel Cretton (“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”) and Andrew Guest (“Community,” “Hawkeye”) and stars Emmy Award winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams and Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley, who reprises his role as Trevor Slattery following appearances in “Iron Man 3,” “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” and “All Hail the King.”
The series follows aspiring Hollywood actor, Simon Williams, who is struggling to get his career off the ground. During a chance meeting with Trevor Slattery, an actor whose biggest roles may be well behind him, Simon learns that legendary director Von Kovak is remaking the superhero film “Wonder Man.” These two actors at opposite ends of their careers doggedly pursue life-changing roles in this film as audiences get a peek behind the curtain of the entertainment industry.
WONDER MAN, an 8-episode series, premieres January 27 at 6PM PT only on Disney+.
