Ethan Hawke is getting awards buzz for his role in Blue Moon and he’s been diligently making his way through the promo rounds. We’ve always had the impression that he has a true Bohemian sense of style and that he can’t really express it as much as he’d like to in the kind of work he’s doing. He tends to either dress extremely quirky or very plain, which comes off to us like occasional bouts of expression surrounded by long periods of just getting the job done. He sort of split the difference for his appearance on Colbert:

We dub this Quirky Plain. And we don’t like it. Look, we’re happy to see any guystar work a bold color, but he’s giving off serious Assisted Living vibes here and he’s way too young to be dressing like Pop Pop. Or rather, he’s technically the right age for it (Gen X wail of anguish) but there’s just no need for him to be stepping out in something Ian McKellen might wear.
