Princess Cathy went full Disney Princess for the Windsor Castle State Banquet for German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The Princess of Wales pulled a previous unworn-by-her tiara out of the vaults, plopped it on top of her royal tresses and put on a sparkly Cinderella dress for the occasion.

We realize that she’s giving the total fantasy here, but we’re going to have to continue our decades-long streak of annoying royal fans by noting that we think the gown looks both flashy and a little stale. To be fair, it’s fun to see someone sporting so many sequins at a state banquet, but we’re not sure that typical form of glamour works when you’re wearing a huge diamond crown on your head. Do you really need the extra sparkle? The tiara, the Indian Circlet, hasn’t been worn in twenty years so it looks like Kate’s staking her claim. We don’t blame her for expanding her tiara horizons. She’s been sporting Diana’s signature tiara for years and she must get tired of the constant comparisons. Having said all that, we maintain that these old tiaras were designed for elaborate hairstyles and when you plop one on top of long hair worn down, it’s giving pageant queen way more than future actual queen.
