Director Kate Winslet joined her stars Andrea Riseborough and Toni Collette on the red carpet for the New York screening of Goodbye June. Let’s assess.
Andrea Riseborough
Boy are we tired of this wadded-up dress trend. Everyone’s stepping out in frocks they fished out from the bottom of the hamper. The bodice isn’t terrible, but that flimsy-ass skirt is awful on her. The color looks great, though. Her makeup always looks too harsh for her coloring.
Kate Winslet
What a dreary dress. We get that this is her directorial debut, but even directors are allowed to get a little glam on the red carpet.
Toni Collette
Boy, we really did a number on her, didn’t we? After years of ridiculously ruffly prairie dress, we snapped and said that she dresses like a doll with yarn hair and ever since, she’s been stepping out in much, much better frocks. We’re not a hundred percent in love with this dress. The color is bland and the cuffs seem unresolved. Plus the belt looks terrible with it. But if you put a thin gold belt on her and maybe a big, focus-pulling cocktail ring, this could pull together nicely.
They do look well-coordinated. We’ll give them that.
ABOUT THE MOVIE:
The film takes place just before Christmas, when an unexpected turn in their mother’s health thrusts four adult siblings and their exasperating father into chaos as they navigate messy family dynamics in the face of potential loss. But their quick-witted mother, June, orchestrates her decline on her own terms — with biting humour, blunt honesty, and a lot of love.
