We reviewed Hedda in last week’s podcast and said that Tessa Thompson gave an awards-consideration performance, even if we thought the film has some clunky parts. Well. judging by the dress she chose for the LACMA Art + Film Gala (which is kind of our whole deal around here; judging dresses), it would seem that she agrees with us.

If that’s not a FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION gown, then we don’t know what is. Smart to go with silver, because showing up to this even dripping in gold might seem like she’s getting ahead of herself. Stars should always follow our Zen awards campaigning advice of “If one wants to win the Oscar, one must become the Oscar,” but she’s got months of parties and ceremonies ahead of her where she can bust out the gold gowns. Right now, she’s standing out by shimmering all in silver. It’s an absolute stunner of a gown and we love both the floral pattern and the open back for giving it some interest. Her hair is interesting, but the makeup looks off.
