LACMA Art + Film Gala 2025: Elle Fanning in Gucci

We are delighted that Elle Fanning has reached a point in her life and career where we can’t ever predict what she’s going to wear next. She was a fashion girlie from the time she first hit it big, but for a very long time after, her style settled on two modes: Disney princess or retro haute fashionista. It was smart and savvy to play up her own looks and to offer two distinct style personae at such a young age, but we felt like she’d eventually start chafing under the restrictions. She never really did. Instead, she’s allowed her style to evolve as she’s gotten older, to the point where she can show up to the LACMA Art + Film Gala essentially dressed in J Lo cosplay:

Who could predict her working a Sexy Diva look now? Not us, although we’re happy to see her expand her range. It almost pains us to type the following wprds, but this baby blue lace gown is pretty great on her. The coat is fun, but it’s just too big. A standard wrap or even a cropped jacket version would have worked better. The necklace is lovely, but it’s lost against that neckline. Oddly, her hair’s kind of a mess. They tried to do something with it, but it clearly didn’t hold up.
