Paris Front Row: Meghan Markle at the Balenciaga Fashion Show

She may be “only” a duchess, but around these parts, Meghan Markle is the Absolute Queen of Neutrals. The Duchess of Sussex headed off to the Balenciaga show in Paris, which is honestly the kind of thing she should be doing more of, and she sported her signature style: big, drapey, and absolutely devoid of color.

This is chic, even if it does give off a bit of a cult leader vibe. It’ll never be our recommendation for her, but she likes these flowy sorts of styles and if she absolutely must go without color, we’d rather see her in white than her ever-present beiges. Her public-facing style hasn’t always been impeccable in the way it should be, but this is well put-together and we suspect the house had a hand in making sure she hit the venue looking flawless.

And if you’re a duchess in Paris for the runway shows, why, it’s practically required that you put on a second outfit and head out to an after-party. Again: this is very much in her mode, but with a flawlessness she doesn’t always achieve. She looks great. We’ll be nitpicky and note that the lip color and mani should be a bit more saturated. Those pale pinks don’t pop. Anyway, we like seeing her out and about, looking chic. She tries too hard to be relatable in her public image, but we tend to think she and Harry would be better off embracing a more conventional celebrity philanthropist sort of lifestyle instead of a pseudo-royal one or a lifestyle influencer one, both of which tend to attract a lot of criticism. We should see her at more museum galas and runway shows.
