The Springsteening continues as the cast of Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere joined its subject on the red carpet at the BFI London Film Festival premiere. As you can see, some choices were made. Let’s assess them.

We may have mentioned this before but we tend to be disinclined to rush out to see this film because it has a strong whiff of hagiography to it. Maybe that’s not fair, but when you have the subject of the film posing on the red carpet, it causes us to wonder if any hard questions or unflattering facts will appear in the piece. Still, Bruce seems to be enjoying himself and Jeremy must be thrilled to have his seal of approval. As to matters of fashion, The Boss is keeping it relatively simple. We think guys are wearing boots with suits way too much lately, but he’s an iconic rock star, so we’ll just suggest that they should be black.

We’re simply never going to love that style of tie and we’ve been very vocal about our dislike of the black suit trend sweeping the world’s red carpets, but the look is sharp, distinct, and of very high quality. He can’t be said to be slacking off. The fit seems a little off, but we surely appreciate those fresh-from-the-box shoes. We bet they carry a faint whiff of tissue paper.

Genuine laugh out loud. Please leave the packages with the doorman, Jeremy. For the most part, we think Jeremy Strong is in on the joke. He has a well-established history of being a fashion risk-taker who changes things up a lot, but always returns to brown, which is a color that suits him well. What we’re saying here is that he gets fashion really well, and if he’s showing up to his Springsteen biopic in a near-parodic take on blue collar working man style, we tend to think he’s doing it with an enormous and well-hidden wink. These pieces are nice, by the way. They should not, however, be worn all at the same time.

Look, you’re young and unfamiliar to us and we’ll be happy to move on from this and pretend it never happened, but Jesus Christ, girl. That is the ugliest fucking gown in creation. Was that the point? No, seriously. Is this some ant-fashion thing? We just want to know.
