We figured we’d interrupt our regularly scheduled Emmy coverage programming to check in on Chanel muse Kristen Stewart and her outfit choices for the Deauville American Film Festival.

We’ll continue to sound like a broken record as long as she continues cashing those Chanel checks: it’s a horrible match of star and brand. She’s not a Chanel girlie, aggressively so. There was a time when her collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld yielded an interesting melange of punk queerness and high fashion, but she hasn’t done anything interesting with the brand in years.

Putting aside her suitability to the brand’s aesthetic, not to mention the individual quibbles we might have with each of these looks (those “pants” are very silly), it’s just kind of… we don’t know…insulting? Maybe that’s too harsh a word, but she couldn’t make it any clearer that this is not her style and that she wouldn’t be wearing these items if she wasn’t contractually obligated to. It’s no fun looking at someone wearing clothes they hate.
