Queen Máxima of the Netherlands Visits New York City in Natan Couture

Queen Maxima continued her U.S. tour by visiting New York in her role as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Security (UNSGSA) along with Princess Amalia and Prime Minister Dick Schoof. She continued to give her own spin on Businessqueen style, but it’s a bit less successful than yesterday’s suit.

She loves that mustardy yellow, but we maintain that it doesn’t love her back nearly as much. Just about the only part of this WAY too matchy outfit we’d suggest keeping are the pants. Everything else should go, starting with that dowdy tunic-style top with it’s oddly bulky neckline. It’s not a great design and it constantly makes her look like she’s shrugging or seizing up. Granted, the fact that she absolutely refuses to keep her face composed for pictures might have a lot to do with that. We once said that Kate was very good at her job because it’s very hard to find a picture of her in anything but perfect composure or highly photogenic laughter. Which isn’t to say that Max is bad at her job; just that she doesn’t prioritize the kind of queenly affect that some might expect from her. Kate is much more interested in recreating herself as a figurehead. Anyway, royal comparisons aside, this is still not a great look. But a black silk pussy bow blouse and black pumps would do a LOT to make it work. She really needs to look into either a more layered cut or simply wearing a low pony all the time. Put bluntly, her hair’s usually a mess for these day events. The princess’s suit is gorgeous.
