America’s Princess Sydney Sweeney came to the premiere of her new film Americana working a 1950s prom dress paired with a 1980s aerobics headband.

She seems confused. Or maybe that’s just us. The style really isn’t one we’d have suggested for her, although maybe she’s thinking a certain level of retro ladylike vibes are what her image calls for at the moment. Since this is a custom dress, and this is her first solo starring role, it’s not very likely that this look was chosen in light of the recent uproar over her American Eagle ad. Instead, it was probably chosen to lend her a bit of a prestige actress flair. That idea makes sense on paper, but because of her shape, the shape of the dress becomes way more boob-focused than these styles tended to be back in the day. We’re not saying it’s a wrong choice or a bad choice for her; just that this style would look very different on, say, Elle Fanning. Our only real critique of the design is that the belt isn’t needed. We don’t understand the headband at all. It just looks goofy with this style. The shoes are hideous.
