Happy Pride! Oh, Mary! star Cole Escola picked up the trophy for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play, thanked Grindr in their acceptance speech, and came to the ceremony dressed as Bernadette Peters in 1999, which is possibly the gayest part of this sentence.

It’s funny; we’re not Broadway queens. but even we paused when we saw them in this outfit. We knew there was a reference being made (all the best drag does it) but it wasn’t until the initial reports came out that it was an interpretation of the dress Peters wore to the 1999 Tonys, when she won for Annie Get Your Gun that we understood it. They look lovely, of course. And very queer – in the greatest and best sense of the word. Quibbles? Sure: the colors are a little unphotogenic and they definitely could’ve used a little contrast in the design. We’re also not crazy about the halter straps, especially in combination with that choker.
