We’re about to flip on our mics and record this week’s podcast, so once again, we’re shirking our bitchy responsibilities and passing them on to you. Monica Barbaro came to the premiere of season 2 of her series FUBAR in the kind of dress that sends a simple, powerful, unmistakable message:

That message is: “Ms. Barbaro will not be hugging anyone tonight.” We love ourselves some prickly fashion that doesn’t concern itself with being friendly. We’re also going to give it half a point for being seasonally appropriate. Sure, that’s a low bar, but the stars have not been able to consistently clear it of late. There’s a certain visual sharpness to the design that’s kind of appealing. And there’s a certain tension evoked by an element that literally looks a little dangerous. We doubt the flowers are sharp or stiff, but the design gives the impression that they are and there’s also something appealing in that. But we do think the dress is over-embellished and that the flowers could have been placed in a more thoughtful way. We also tend to think they look just a little chintzy. The makeup looks a little too low-key for a dress as dramatic as this one and we can’t help thinking silver sandals with a black pedi were a no-brainer here. Oh, look. Turns out we couldn’t keep our mouths shut on this one at all. Still, the final call is yours. We just give you some discussion points to bat around.
