Cate Blanchett came to the Serpentine Gallery Summer Party in a dress so damn wacky that we just had to throw this post together, even though we’re down one man in a two-man operation. Can you blame us for scrambling? Just look at what Good Lady Cate hath wrought:

We’re scared. We’re scared of the Post-Apocalyptic Shell Lady. We don’t really think there’s a way to critique this on conventional criteria. It’s clearly not meant to be elegant and we struggle with the idea that it’s even meant to be pretty. It’s meant to be bold and weird and have a high impact, so from that perspective, it’s a successful design. But we do think the skirt comes off like a flimsy after thought. We can’t help thinking she must smell like salt.
