Taking a break now from all of that breezy ostentation at the Cannes Film Festival and hitting the gritty, mean streets of New York, where the stars have to battle the urban elements just to get a spot to themselves on the sidewalk. Let’s see how the cast of Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning managed under these harsh conditions, shall we?
Angela Bassett in Ozwald Boateng
LOVE this for her. Boateng is a great option for her. The clutch is hilarious.
Esai Morales
He would have been better off just going with the expected tie, but that’s the only quibble we have. That’s the kind of silver hair every guy hopes he gets when the grays start coming in.
Hayley Atwell in Fendi
We don’t know what it is, but something’s gone out of her red carpet style. This isn’t terrible, but it’s the kind of look that really needs smart styling. She keeps defaulting to severe hair and harsh makeup and it’s just not doing it for her. Get yourself a blowout and tone down that contouring, lady.
Greg Tarzan Davis
No notes. Looks amazing.
Pom Klementieff in Alexander McQueen
Gorgeous. The best thing she’s worn on this tour by far. She does really well with black. We don’t expect everyone to agree and we figure they’re probably pretty weird to wear, but the shoes are kind of cool.
Simon Pegg in Joshua Kane
We like that he really goes for it on that tacky Brit dandy level. We just wish we liked the results more.
Tom Cruise
He doesn’t have to do more than this and he knows it. It’s fine.
Tramell Tillman in Dolce & Gabbana
It would be very easy for him – and in some ways, we suspect he gets a lot of pressure for it – to simply adopt Colman Domingo’s now-legendary Black queer dandy style, but we like that he’s carving out something smoother for himself; more like a modern Teddy Pendergrass mode. He looks great. He’s very smart to show off that chest at every chance. We’d have loved the boots in a brown or oxblood.
