PinLa Plume Bar and Restaurant – Toronto, Canada

Darlings, it’s WEDNESDAY. That should serve as enough of a reason to take a seat in today’s LOunge and let the day pass you by. Carpe some other diem. This one’s all about being lazy. Let’s get to it.

‘On Swift Horses’ Stars Diego Calva, Sasha Calle on Their First Meeting, Discovering Queer American History, and Navigating the Moment as Latin Actors
They address the characters’ bravery, what they learned from director Daniel Minahan and the timing of the release: “‘I’m grateful that a movie, … a queer story that has two Latinos in it, is being released.”

There were many things that On Swift Horses stars Diego Calva and Sasha Calle learned about being queer and Latin in 1950s America while working with director Daniel Minahan. That includes the greaser subculture when the federal government took a major step to hiring openly LGBTQ+ workers, and that gay bars could have a designated song to alert patrons to “stop kissing and then pretend they’re really macho,” recalls Calva.
“Just trying to go and find love, it was like going to war,” the Golden Globe-nominated Mexican actor tells The Hollywood Reporter while discussing what he learned portraying Henry, the partner in crime and romantic interest of Jacob Elordi’s Julius. “We call it campo minado in Mexico — when you can step onto a bomb at any time. It was dangerous.”

Miss Congeniality’s Costume Designer Reveals the Secrets Behind Sandra Bullock’s Most Iconic Looks
Including the costume that she thought was too over the top but ended up working out perfectly

Miss Congeniality fans know all too well that April 25 is the perfect date. So does Miss Congeniality costume designer Susie DeSanto, who created, curated, and sourced the film’s iconic looks for Sandra Bullock’s lovably tough FBI agent, Gracie Hart.
And this year, April 25 marks the start of the film’s 25th anniversary celebration (it was originally released on December 22, 2000), which is both appropriate and totally surreal, especially for DeSanto.
“I can’t believe it’s 25 years,” says DeSanto, who was also the costume designer on 13 Going on 30, One Fine Day, Hope Floats, and most recently, Hulu’s Good American Family. “It’s so funny because I remember so much of it like it was yesterday. It was such a vibrant experience.”

I know how to spot a trend—these retro-inspired sunglasses are about to be everywhere
The colour of the season

There’s never been a better time to invest in a great pair of sunglasses. With an impending heatwave approaching and summer holidays on the horizon, it’s time to dip into this season’s biggest accessory trends. And that wouldn’t be complete with a great pair of sunnies.
A good pair of sunglasses is a staple in any hard-working summer wardrobe. You most likely have a classic pair of aviators or a sleek cat eye, but I spotted one retro-inspired trend cropping up on all the best runways—most notably Alexander McQueen, Tory Burch, Chloé and Lacoste—that I’d advise adding to your collection. We’re talking yellow-tinted sunglasses, to be exact.
The yellow hued sunnies were seen in various iterations: from 70s-inspired aviators to classic cat-eyes and even bold asymmetric frames—perfect for maximalists.

I’ve kept my go-to vintage shops a secret for years, but now is the time to share – behold, the 64 best online vintage stores
Your definitive guide, by era

I don’t like vintage shopping – I love it. It’s the thrill of the hunt that gets my dopamine receptors twitching; there’s nothing quite like the feeling of tracking down a pristine, pre-loved Louis Vuitton bag or the perfect pair of oversized earrings from the ’80s.
Over the years, I have accumulated a list of the best online vintage shops and sellers, each specialising in various eras and ephemera. Whether you’re looking for a 1920s slip or Y2K Gucci, I know the people who can make it happen.
My meticulously curated directory has remained under lock and key… until now. Yes, dear readers, I am sharing my secrets. Happy shopping – and don’t tell too many of your friends.

After the perfect wedding mascara? I’ve tested over a hundred formulas—these are the ones I’d recommend
All the length, volume and lift you could ask for

It’s no secret that mascara is the backbone of any well-executed makeup look, particularly when it concerns your wedding day. Should things go wrong, it’s the first product to smudge, so the pressure of choosing the right formula couldn’t be any higher. After all, your big day will inevitably push it to its limits—tears, sweat and all.
So, apart from offering all the flutter, volume and lift that you’d already be looking for in an everyday mascara, your wedding formula also has to be flake-proof, long-wearing, and, ideally, water-resistant. Even if you’re opting for a false lash, many makeup artists will still advise applying mascara as a finishing touch to add more definition and intensity to the overall look.

Unsure what to wear for work in a heatwave? Try one of these 8 failsafe outfit formulas
All the inspiration you need to look chic and stay cool

Obviously, in an ideal scenario, we’d spend the duration of this time in a beer garden sipping Aperol Spritzes or sunbathing in the park—but alas, for most, this is hardly realistic given the heatwave is taking place mid-working-week. So, instead, we take on the gruelling challenge of commuting into the office as usual, while simultaneously trying to stay cool and comfortable, and look chic.
Let’s be honest, dressing for the office is tricky enough at the best of times, but even more so when it’s sticky and boiling outside. But fear not, for I’ve channeled all my fashion expertise and experience from years of warm-weather commuting to put together 8 failsafe outfit formulas that will make getting dressed for work in a heatwave that much easier.

Overcompensating is the new queer coming-of-age series with music from Charli XC
Overcompensating, an exciting new TV series centred around a closeted former football player trying to survive university in America, should be top of your watchlist right now. And not just because Charli XCX produced the music.
Comedian and actor Benito Skinner will star, and also wrote the script – which is more than a little autobiographical. “I am so honoured and excited to be partnering with Prime Video, A24, and Strong Baby [Jonah Hill’s production company] to bring you Overcompensating,” he has said. “I wrote this pilot four years ago in an attempt to make people laugh, feel a little less alone, and maybe to work through some residual college trauma.

Did Princess Diana Spend a Night Out in Drag With Freddie Mercury?
In a new book, Dianaworld: An Obsession, author Edward White revisits a perhaps apocryphal tale about the late princess’s trip to a gay club in the late 1980s.

After Princess Diana married the future King Charles III in 1981, the couple moved into a large apartment at Kensington Palace, where Diana would remain even after they separated a decade later. Though the palace was in the middle of London, it is an isolated oasis surrounded by gardens. Still, the princess took advantage of city living and was apparently known to exit the palace grounds in disguise in order to enjoy nearby bars and hot spots, especially during the years after her divorce.
In his new book, Dianaworld: An Obsession, author Edward White retells a vivid story of the princess’s escapades, when she joined the actress and TV presenter Cleo Rocos on a journey to the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, a famous London gay bar in the late 1980s. In her memoir, Rocos writes that she, Diana, and Freddie Mercury were at the apartment of TV host Kenny Everett, watching Golden Girls on TV when the princess had an idea.

Nicola Coughlan Talks Red Carpet Dressing: ‘I Like The Differentiation… I’m A Slob A Lot Of The Time’
Though on first glance the looks Coughlan wears run the gamut, I wonder if she notices a common thread amongst them all? ‘I think it’s how I feel when I wear them, I suppose. I love to wear something very different from the last day. I think it’s really fun to switch it up.’
While we’re not anticipating that Coughlan is always wearing custom runway looks to the local watering hole, naturally there is going to be some carry through of the advice and guidance she has picked up along the way. ‘I think that would be in terms of silhouette,’ she says. ‘But, I like the differentiation between the regular me and the red carpet me because it’s nice to know that my professional life and my private life is different, but I take certain necklines or the length of a hem. It’s really interesting getting to understand fashion on that level and the difference that cut can make.’

The 90s Bob Is Back – How To Recreate The Iconic Voluminous Haircut
A guide to cutting and styling this timeless supermodel style.

Finding a haircut that is utterly timeless, effortless to grow out and easy to style is no small feat, but somehow the 90s bob ticks all the boxes. As sported by the supermodels of the decade (think Christy Turlington, Yasmeen Ghauri and Beverly Peele), the 90s bob is defined by its bouncy body, soft finish and classic chin-grazing length. Today, models like Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid have all adopted the cut, carrying the torch forward in the name of effortless elegance and ultimate hair drama.
Whether you’re looking for a transformative hair refresh for spring 2025, or you’re looking for a clean cut to elevate your short, choppy look, this is everything you need to know about getting a 90s bob, including how to style yourself.

Micro Bangs Are the Bold, Vintage Hair Trend Celebs Love
Here’s how to get the It girl–approved style.

Among the different bang styles, micro bangs stand out as one of the boldest for your face shape. Also known as Hepburn bangs, micro bangs were popularized by the Hollywood icon Audrey Hepburn, who famously wore short, choppy fringe in films and on red carpets. Amy Abramite, creative director and stylist at Chicago’s Maxine Salon, also notes that the look was worn by ’90s supermodels like Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Kate Moss, and Claudia Schiffer.
“This look is definitely a nod to classic Hollywood Hepburn, delivered with a ’90s supermodel nostalgia,” says Abramite, adding that the look can also be swept to the side.

Why Do So Many Celebrities Have Condiment Brands?
Relish the moment.
It might be considered cringe in some circles (or just Fey’s), but alcohol brands have made Hollywood’s elite some serious dough. Casamigos Tequila minted its famous founders, George Clooney and Cindy Crawford’s husband Randy Gerber, almost a billion dollars. Ryan Reynolds’s botanical side hustle, Aviation Gin, sold for $600 million. (Okay, maybe Amy Poehler should get into the rosé game.)
The list goes on: Cameron Diaz has a fun and flirty wine label, Avaline Wine. Kate Hudson loves martinis mixed with her King St. Vodka brand. And of course, the Kardashian machine—Kris Jenner has never met a niche business idea she didn’t love—got in on the trend with Kendall Jenner’s 818 Tequila. That’s not to mention the countless Bravo-lebrities and C-listers who have also tried their hand at the adult beverage business with varying degrees of success.

In Bonjour Tristesse, Costume Designer Miyako Bellizzi and Renaissance Renaissance’s Cynthia Merhej Craft a Fantasy Wardrobe Grounded in Reality
In Bonjour Tristesse, the directorial debut from writer Durga Chew-Bose based on the 1954 novel of the same name by Françoise Sagan, we meet Cécile, played by Lily McInerny, a moody teenager on holiday in the south of France with her dad Raymond (Claes Bang), and his younger lover Elsa (Nailia Harzoune). Her days are idyllically spent smoking cigarettes, dancing, and kissing Cyril (Aliocha Schneider), the literal boy next door; until the arrival of Anne (Chloë Sevigny), a fashion designer and an old friend of Raymond and Cécile’s late mom threatens to disturb her vision of paradise.

What You Can Tell From the Color of Your Whiskey
A whiskey’s color can inform how it was made and how it will taste.

When enjoying a pour of fine whiskey, taking in the complexity of aromas and flavors is the main event. But to appreciate a whiskey’s appearance, specifically its color, is often overlooked.
“Color is one of the first ways a whiskey introduces itself,” says Will Fabry, head distiller for CraftCo. “It sets the tone, introduces assumptions, and can even reflect the decisions we’ve made as craftspeople. From barrel selection to warehouse placement and blending ratios, to cellar conditions, every choice we make leaves its impression in the glass.”
What does the color of a whiskey tell you about how it tastes? Quite a bit. There are many factors at play, however. Knowing how different types of whiskey get their color can help give you a general idea of how a whiskey was made and, therefore, how it might taste.

Dutch Municipality Accidentally Discards a 1980s Warhol Print
A portrait of former Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands might have been worth tens of thousands of dollars. It was probably thrown out during a renovation.
Sometimes, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
But in one recent bureaucratic snafu, a known treasure most likely ended up in the trash.
The southern Dutch municipality of Maashorst appears to have mistakenly thrown out a valuable silk-screen print of former Queen Beatrix by Andy Warhol, along with nearly 50 other works of art, according to an independent investigation ordered by the municipality.
The works of art had probably gone missing after a renovation of the town hall, Maashorst officials said in a statement.
But the investigation was not entirely conclusive, and officials say they may never be certain what had happened to the art.

“Your Arms Look Incredible”: Brett Goldstein and Phil Dunster Have a Ted Lasso Reunion
After watching his Ted Lasso co-star Brett Goldstein’s new HBO stand-up special, The Second Best Night of Your life, Phil Dunster had a few observations, though none more salient than this: “You are someone who is so deeply, utterly, and cellularly obsessed with using the word cunt.” Indeed, Goldstein’s new hourlong special includes no small amount of profanity, but the 44-year-old actor, writer, and comedian, who’s won two Emmy Awards for his work on Ted Lasso, has hilarious insights to share about phone etiquette, Sesame Street, and being a Brit in America, too. And while most know him as Roy Kent, or as the creator of another hit Apple TV+ comedy, Shrinking, Goldstein has been performing stand-up comedy for longer than he’s been a global television star. It’s a medium, he says, that’s about cultivating a shared sense of depravity as much as it is about laughter. “If you laugh,” he told Dunster, “either I’m not insane and we all feel this way or I am insane, but it’s okay, you’re still going to accept me amongst the human community.” So, after watching, Dunster called up Goldstein from Los Angeles to ask about authorial intent, men’s fashion, and innovative sex positions.

Social media is no longer social
Everyone is on social media, and yet these apps are less and less about socialising. Is it time to rethink how and why we’re online?

When I first started using social media, around the age of 12, I would sneak downstairs early in the morning to use the family computer before anyone else in the house was awake. All night, I’d lie awake anxiously waiting for daybreak so I could log on to Facebook or Moshi Monsters and see whether my friends had replied to a joke I’d made or continued the gossip we’d been discussing the day before. Back then, in the early 2010s, as I was first becoming aware of the internet’s possibilities; it felt like the main purpose (or at least, my main purpose) for being online was simply to talk to my friends.

Barbra Streisand Teaming Up With Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Ariana Grande, Mariah Carey, Hozier and Other Stars for New Duets Album
Barbra Streisand is going back to the buddy system for her next album, joining forces with several generations’ worth of stars, from Bob Dylan and Paul McCartney to Hozier and Laufey, for a collection of duets. The record, titled “The Secret Of Life: Partners, Volume Two,” is a sequel to her 2014 album “Partners” and comes out June 27.
One of the 11 tracks, “One Heart, One Voice,” is not a duet but rather finds Streisand forming a trio with two of the biggest voices in music, Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande.

Netflix to Stream Alfred Hitchcock Film Collection
Get ready to scream: Netflix is bringing a collection of Alfred Hitchcock films to the streaming service this June — and, despite chief Ted Sarandos’ belief that the movie-theater biz is “outdated,” the company will showcase the legendary filmmaker’s work at its Paris Theater in New York City in a six-week series.
Starting June 1, a collection of classic Hitchcock films will be available to stream in the U.S. Those will include “Vertigo,” “Rear Window,” “Frenzy,” “The Man Who Knew Too Much,” “Family Plot” and “The Birds.” Currently, U.S. customers can stream Hitchcock’s genre-defining masterpiece “Psycho,” now available on Netflix in the country.

Raising the Freaky flag: Inside Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan’s 22-year bond fueling Freakier Friday‘s soul
Curtis, Lohan, and their “Freaky” sequel family swap stories on returning for more body switching, new (and old) motherhood, and keeping nostalgia alive for a new generation.

“I’ve known Lindsay since she was 15,” Curtis explains of meeting Lohan while filming the 2003 film, which became a teen comedy hit to the tune of $110 million at the domestic box office. “That’s just an extraordinary thing, to watch someone walk through life.”
The actresses’ trajectories may have deviated slightly since their initial collaboration, but Lohan confirms she and Curtis remained an important part of each other’s lives over the decades — and Freakier Friday’s narrative celebrates that power of ties that endure and prevail through sometimes sorcerous hurdles.
