Randall Park and Uzo Aduba got themselves all gussied up for the premiere of their new Netflix series The Residence. Interesting choices were made. Let’s discuss.
We’ll say right off the bat that we like both outfits, but the fit is bad in each of them. Other quibbles: the white turtleneck bugs, but it’s a look. The problem is the black footwear chosen for an all-white outfit. He’d have been better off with some suede bucks, kicks, or brown dress shoes. Her suit it great, but she always looks uncomfortable in these highly tailored looks, even though she chooses them all the time. We love the squared-off shoulders, but we hate the construction of the skirt. The jacket it both too tight and too long on her.

ABOUT THE SERIES:
Flight 331. DCA to LAX. The first of three flights that will take avid birder and the world’s greatest living detective, Cordelia Cupp (Uzo Aduba), 9,034 miles to Papua New Guinea to look for the elusive Dimorphic Jewel-babbler.
And then? A phone call. Right there on the tarmac. From her boss, the Chief of the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, where Cupp serves as Consulting Detective. He tells her he needs her. Right now. She points out that she’s on an airplane, which is true. He tells her that airplane is headed back to the gate. Which also appears to be true. Cupp closes the book in her lap, Birds of the World, and grabs a pen. “Give me the address,” she says. “I’ll meet you there.” He clears his throat: “1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.”
And so begins the biggest, wildest, most outrageously challenging case of Detective Cupp’s already illustrious career. A case that will lock down The White House overnight, launch the most explosive Congressional Investigation since Watergate, and really, really annoy Kylie Minogue.
132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body. One disastrous State Dinner. The Residence is a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion. Also starring Giancarlo Esposito, Molly Griggs, Randall Park, Susan Kelechi Watson, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Edwina Findley, Jason Lee, Ken Marino, Al Mitchell, Dan Perrault, Bronson Pinchot, Julieth Restrepo, Mel Rodriguez, Mary Wiseman, Eliza Coupe, Jane Curtin, and Al Franken. And, yes, Kylie Minogue.
