As per the usual for this time of year, the vast majority of our red carpet coverage is focused on the Oscar nominees, which is why we winced a little when we saw these shots of A Complete Unknown star and Best Supporting Actress nominee Monica Barbaro, realizing that we’re far behind on giving her some spotlight attention. Girl, we apologize. We haven’t done right by you. Then again, we don’t think you’re showing your face nearly as much as you should be right now. Who cares if you have a shot at the trophy? Right now is about lining up your next gig and the bigger paycheck that comes with it. Anyway, we’ll make up for our lack of consideration by judging your outfits now.

We’ll give it credit for being unusual enough that we really had to scrutinize it in order to take it all in. That’s a skirt, not pants. And that’s a ton of fringe hanging off the top. We’re afraid we can’t sign off on any of it. The fringe is absolutely the worst part, but if you got rid of it, she’d still be standing there in a somewhat awkward top with a skirt that feels unresolved. We feel like bra tops and crop tops work with tight skirts or big poofy skirts, but they don’t look right with column skirts. Then again, her next outfit kinda proves us a little wrong on that one:

Although in our defense, this is more of a bubble skirt and that top barely counts as a crop top. If the top were a little shorter and the skirt had a little more flare to it on the bottom, we’d like this a lot more. We tend not to love black-backed florals, but we like the vintage feel of this print. We can understand wanting to match one of the colors in the shoes, but we think any of the others would be a better choice than pink. We do a lot of complaining about the ubiquity of black pumps lately, but we think they might be the best choice for this one.
