What? Did you think they were done promoting this film? To quote the Lesser Cher, as if! Oscar voting may be closed, but the work never stops for these two self-promoting divas. Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo did one more round of cosplay for the Tokyo premiere.
While their looks are clearly meant to evoke their characters, this is much closer to the kind of promotional dressing we’d have liked to have seen during the publicity tour instead of all those tortured pink or green gowns. Neither of them look like they’re in costumes, but each of them are well coordinated to the backdrop (which was always the point of that endless parade of green and pink). Ariana’s gown is gorgeously simple and dramatic. The hairpiece is twee beyond twee, but it suits her, it’s a tip of the hat (pun intended) to her character without being costumey about it, and the minimalism of the dress showcases it nicely. We love the shape and style of Cynthia’s gown, and the hat really makes the look, but we dislike how heavy and fuzzy it appears.
