We managed to squeeze out a spotlight post for Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo and an IN or OUT post for Ayo Edebiri, but we’re gonna have to round up the rest of the attendees of the American Film Institute Awards for judgment because, for whatever reasons (possibly a stacked night of events for all involved) many of the attendees didn’t post on the red carpet. We’re pissed at all of you and we’re going to be extra mean in our assessments.
Adriana Paz, Édgar Ramírez and Zoe Saldana
This sort of looks like part of a cute outfit on Zoe! Who knows! From what little we can see of Adriana’s look, we don’t like it.
Adrien Brody
Whatever those white things are on his pants, they’re dumb. The rest is boring.
Ayo Edebiri, Ariana Grande, Colman Domingo and Cynthia Erivo
He’s wearing a gorgeous coat and we would expect no less from him. A curse upon the photographer for not letting us see the shoes.
Brett Goldstein
It’s boring and the jacket is too small on him.
Cristin Milioti
A little too severe and minimalist for the setting, we think.
Édgar Ramírez
It’s almost funny how bad he is at posing. He’s also bad at picking flattering outfits, but this one isn’t too bad. The shirt doesn’t work and the pants need a hemming.
Jeff Goldblum
We support his right to be an elder dandy, but this all looks a little cheap and that’s not something we’ve ever observed about his style choices before.
Jesse Eisenberg
Whatever.
Jodie Foster
This feels like a bit of an unexpected swerve coming from her. She’s not a fitted jacket kind of gal any more than she’s a satin-wearing one, but this almost works, if it weren’t so wrinkled.
Kali Reis
This looks hot on her, but we don’t love the color and we don’t think whatever she’s got on her feet are the right choice for it.
Kristen Bell
We realize a lot of folks find the draped jacket to be a rage-inducing affectation and we won’t even argue the point, but we do think this combination works pretty well. Weird shoes, though.
Michelle Yeoh and Ariana Grande
LOVE Michelle’s jacket, but we’re not feeling the white pants.
Moeka Hoshi and Hiroyuki Sanada
Her suit is really cute, but we think a shoe with a little bit of contrast would be better. Love the color of his shirt but it needs a tie for contrast.
Quinta Brunson and Kristen Bell
Is Quinta wearing a suit or a dress with a vest and jacket? We’ll never know, we guess! Looks interesting, though.
Ralph Fiennes
Sorry to get all huffy, but this is simply disrespectful to his peers, the cast and crew of his film, and the American Film Institute. It’s not a formal event, but it’s clearly a dressy one and it doesn’t take more work or effort to put on a sportscoat and a pair of dress pants. If you’re really so intent on signaling your lack of interest, just stay home.
