Better late than never, darlings! After trying three times yesterday to record this week’s podcast – and being thwarted each time by jabronis with jackhammers – we got up this morning, said a silent thanks to union rules, and flipped on the mics so we could get down to the business of opinionating. This week, we took a look at three highly buzzy films heading into awards season: Pablo Larrain’s Maria, starring Angelina Jolie, Gia Coppola’s The Last Showgirl, starring Pamela Anderson, and Halin Reijn’s Babygirl, starring Nicole Kidman. You wouldn’t think so at first glance, but these three films are linked, exploring themes of aging, art, and the choices and regrets of women. We dive into the questions raised, the themes explored, and whether the hype is real on these three much-discussed performances.
