Cate Blanchett hosted a special screening of director Ingmar Bergman’s landmark film Persona, which was sponsored by Lanvin. Because Good Lady Cate always comes correct, she dressed in something severe and minimalist – courtesy of Lanvin, of course.
As we said, ever the appropriate choice. Sparkly, attention-seeking or glamorous would have made her look like a bit of an asshole, so dressing like a stylish film professor about to give a lecture couldn’t have been more perfect. It doesn’t tend to take the most dazzling picture, what with the near total lack of color, but it’s sharp and serious in a way that the event calls for. Having said all that (you had to know there was a “having said all that” coming), that waist sash is so awful to our eyes that it nearly ruins the look. A simple thin belt would work so much better. Even an ’80s-thick belt would.
