We debated whether we should do this cast rundown at the London premier of Nosferatu or give stars Emma Corrin and Lily-Rose Depp their own spotlight posts, but that would be upholding the idea that the ladies are expected to do all the work in these situations, so we’re including the guys, just so we can yell at them a little.
To be fair, they didn’t do all that badly.
Bill Skarsgård in Saint Laurent
This is clearly a very fine suit and we can understand the impulse to make black the center of your vampire movie promotional wardrobe, but these choices are so dull and his looks call for something much more interesting. There’s a lot you can do with black, from goth to fetish(both of which he’s suited to), so this sort of dull-as-dishwater direction feels like a major missed opportunity.
Emma Corrin in Alexander McQueen
This is both lovely and a little weird, with a Daughter of Dracula sort of feel to it without being too literal about it. They’re on a big free-the-nip quest at the moment and we wish them well on their journey. Personally, we’re not bothered by it if they style calls for it. We think it works here.
Lily-Rose Depp in Chanel Couture
The basic style has an old world feel to it, albeit with a heavy dose of the 1980s in the mix. We think it’s almost always dicey to wear gray on a red carpet, but this shade looks pretty great on her. The collar’s kind of awful, the necklaces could be edited a bit and the shoes feel like a missed opportunity to do something interesting. Still, we kind of like it. We’d have rec’d black tights and booties, but that might have tipped into cosplay territory.
Nicholas Hoult in Prada
This looks great on him. You’ve got to have the juice to work head-to-toe tweed and not look stuffy or stuffed into it. He makes it look easy. BUT THIS NEEDS A BELT, DAMMIT.
Willem Dafoe
Yes, he is, as always, moisturized and thriving, but the point of the phrase is that he always comes correct and makes it look easy.
