Moana 2 stars Dwayne Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho headed to Hawaii for the world premiere. Both of them were smart enough to know that overt theme dressing would probably come off a little goofy in this setting, but they managed to dress in a manner that pays attention to the surroundings and the event.
Normally, we’d avoid making this sort of connection because most stars just don’t think this way, but we suspect he chose this ensemble because it matches the logo and it makes a good backdrop for a bunch of leis. The color looks great on him and the fit is, as always, impressive. He’s one of the few men alive who can get away with wearing a scoop neck with a suit. He needs a belt.
The faux pearl top is an interesting, photogenic choice that works well for this kind of premiere, but we’re amazed by how poorly chosen the rest of the outfit is. Sure, you could wear that top with pants, but we’d never have suggested a pair of high-waisted black wide-legged pants with this, let alone a beige bandeau. There are so many great ways to set that top off and she managed to avoid every single one of them. A simple blue dress would have done the trick just fine.
