You asked for it – well, some of you did, anyway – and we wouldn’t stop talking about it on our podcast, so now that it’s officially spooky season, it’s time for us to put up or shut up about our heavy Halloweening this year. We always had a little collection of things to put out each October, but because we’ll be away for the Christmas holidays this year, we felt like we weren’t going to be able to scratch our holiday decorating itch unless we switched from a red and green aesthetic to a black and orange one.
We’ll link to whatever’s still purchasable along the way, but some of these items are sold out or were bought a long time ago and some were even picked up at dollar stores and TJ Maxxes along the way. We’re not snooty about this sort of thing and you’ll find that all of it’s very affordable, should you want to snag a little of that T Lo swag. Since we have three cats and we love candlelight during the holiday months, we’re perfectly fine with the battery operated kind and we thought these jack-o-lantern tapers were pretty fun.
But we absolutely fell in love with these gothy pillar candles; so much so that we bought a set of black pillar stands to go with them.
We got this cute Hallmark honeycomb card a couple of years ago (only seems to be available on ebay now), but it made us want to get more of these charmingly retro decorations, so…
We snagged a set of these beauties. They have strings attached for hanging, but we like keeping them out as an arrangement. The witchy, skeletal table runner we picked up from Sur La Table and it’s our favorite piece of all our Halloween decor.
Dollar store find!
We’re afraid the Martha Stewart LED ghosts (a set of 3) are discontinued, but we got a set of these really cute pumpkin LED tealights and they’re spread out all over the place, flickering away.
Bought these lovelies at a craft fair in Lancaster, PA about ten years ago.
No idea where we got either the sparkly orange ones or the string of mercury glass lights, but we call this our bowl of disco pumpkins.
What are the holidays without a good vintage-inspired set of coasters?
Or vintage-inspired throw pillow covers?
We saw this at TJ Maxxx and you could hear our gay squeals of delight all over the store.
Okay, so! Wreath time! After literally months of researching Halloween wreaths, we came to two conclusions. One: they’re insanely expensive; and two: they’re pretty chintzy. So we, being the crafty bitches that we are, went to Michael’s and snagged everything you see here to make this gorgeous little number: the wreath, the orange sparkly berry things, the glittery, purple vines, gay little pumpkins,
and of course, the cat and the ribbon. Lorenzo is a master bow-tier, of course.
And what’s a Halloween wreath without spooky lights?
Of COURSE we have a Halloween tree! We’ve had the urn for years and the pumpkins are from various Target and/or Martha collections.
We fell in love with these sugar skull ornaments, but we didn’t like the strings that were attached to them so we snagged this orange ribbon to dress them up a little.
With a Nightmare Before Christmas tree topper!
To go with our Jack Skellington coasters, naturally.
We kinda felt like the vase-full-of-twigs thing is a little overplayed, so instead, we got these gothy funereal black and red silk flowers, which look kind of amazing when the sun hits them. The jack-o-lantern stained glass tealight holders we’ve had for years.
We got these adorable Rae Dunn ramekins at Home Goods, but they appear to be discontinued.
We got these from IKEA and we LOVE them.
An impulse buy from Target, but how could we pass this cute little guy up?
Are we going too far by having Halloween hand towels? Can one go too far when it comes to Halloweening?
Dollar store find!
Tom collects salt and pepper shakers and these Day of the Dead figures and wicked little cats are among his favorites. They’re both very hard to find, sadly.
And finally, the decorations that started us down this spooky road, the vintage Beistle designs so many of his know from our childhoods.
There’s the super-spooky 1930s designs…
And the slightly more familiar 1940s-50s designs.
Happy Halloweening, kittens!
