While Prince Harry was making stops on a trip in South Africa, Duchess Meghan made a rare solo red carpet appearance at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Gala, re-wearing a reworked Carolina Herrera that she was last seen wearing in 2021, at the Salute to Freedom Gala in New York City. We didn’t love the dress back then and we like it even less now.
We hate to be critical about her in a red dress, because she so rarely wears colors and they look great on her, but there’s just too much bad in this design. As we said, we didn’t love it the first time, but we can see that the design definitely works better with the train attached to it. The weird shape of the bust, lack of a defined waist and center slit all combine to make for a fairly unflattering look. A belt would have helped, but those bust cups are never going to look good, no matter what styling choices she makes. We realize she loves working that semi-beachy SoCal sort of aesthetic, but that sort of styling just doesn’t look right with a dress like this. The makeup and hair look too casual, some jewelry was needed, and while we hate to haul this one out because it always gets into serious nitpicking, she needed a mani-pedi with some color.
