The Academy Museum Gala has caused a backlog of red carpet looks in our folders and it’s time for us to clean them out. Julianne Moore attended the London Film Festival premiere of The Room Next Door and we’re partially pleased to announce that she’s back to wearing the slightly off-beat, occasionally awkward designs she always tended to favor. We say “partially” because we don’t actually like the dress all that much:

Like a lot of the styles she goes for, it’s kind of interesting but doesn’t feel completely resolved or finished somehow. We like the design, but the fit is off and the neckline and armholes feel like afterthoughts. The buttons are interesting, but they’re impact feels kind of low, like the dress needed more of them or to have them more prominently placed. And finally, white is absolutely not a good color for her, which is why it’s always been so puzzling to us that she reaches for it so often.
